Mark, seeing as you're a stickler for the rules, what's the rule about posting at least something hours before the set deadline?  People who work 9-5 had no chance of making this thread (unless they've got internet access at work),

Depends when the OOP was released?

2) Matchday threads only count when they are posted at least 9 hours before the deadline. This rule does not apply if the OOP is released outside of the acceptable time frame and in such a case the decision to post up the match thread is left at the discretion of the staff.

I've actually forgotten about this rule, can someone explain the second part of it?

My assumption is that only if the OOP is released less than 9 hours before play starts can the rule be excepted.

Can't say for sure, but I know it was up when I did my predictions in t'other thread about 8 hrs 40 mins before play started.

If Josh is the only one to miss the deadline though, I'd be tempted to let predictions including Josh's stand given that:
  • the thread wasn't created on time according to the regs
  • he posted within 9 hours of the thread being created
  • he gained no advantage from posting late
  • it's not in the interests of the competition to exclude days without good reason

If others missed the deadline, I'd strike the day off entirely.

Obviously it's not my call though.

From what I've counted the people who haven't made predictions are:
TCK
rafa
Josh (or at least was late)
Mark
Sarah_
nenad

Of these two are in the top 8, and an extra one is not far off.

That's a lot of people, and I'd guess some would have posted had the thread been made earlier. Given that there's a rule which says "Matchday threads only count when they are posted at least 9 hours before the deadline", and that this appears to have substantially affected the number of entrants, I can't see how this can stand.

Otherwise, what's the point of having the rule?

If the timing of this thread broke the rules then this day doesn't count...

I don't think that rule means to say that if the oop is only released less then 9 hours before play then it's alright. I can't be, because that never ever happens! I think it means if it gets released in the middle of the night, then it can be posted up late, and that was the case here, so I think it should still stand.
And by the way, half the people TCK mentioned wouldn't have posted anyway, as you can see they haven't posted in the last few days anyway. If say only Josh lost out because of the late deadline.

I'd therefore say that today should stand, with Josh's predictions.

That's what I suspected was the rule and I remember it being something like that. So yes, if the OOP was released in the middle of the night then this matchday does not need to be cancelled.

The rule needs to be rewritten though - it's not clear enough.
