It's ridiculous. Hamilton choked at the final hurdle. Ricky Hatton for me only becomes that high up if he beats Mayweather. Calzaghe gets my vote right at this moment unless Hatton wins, in which case he gets my vote.

I don't think its fair to say that about Hamilton. You have to remember that it was his first year in the sport. Just imagine he hadn't been leading the championship throughout the season - in that case, even you'd probably agree he'd deserve the prize for finishing second.
Also, i think the prize does not only reflect achievement, but also the wider aspects of impact, recognition out of his/her sport etc. for any sportsman/woman. I think Hamilton wins that hands-down.
