BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2008

I thought Laura would of won that

One thing I was surprised about was they never mentioned her getting to junior world no 1. (she is no 1 right? lol ) Shows how the focus is a) on the Olympics/paralympics for details and b) only on Wimbledon for tennis.

Not sure she is junior no1.

Worthy winner, well done Chris. Smile

Surprised at the result tbh, thought Hamilton would get it considering the press coverage he got.

Great to see that Chris won trophy  The picture I saw earlier today showed Hamilton not looking so happy Rolling Eyes in the background - there's plenty of time for you to win this Lewis yes

No wonder Lewis was looking pissed off

With the credit crunch as it is by the time next years show is on formula 1 will be only about 3 teams left and they will only have a budget to afford chaved out Citroen and Peugeots. yes

I can't see many people voting for that  Whistle

Didn't Hamilton come 2nd last year as well?

I can understand Hamilton being pissed off, I don't care that the Olympics only comes every four years, I think Hamilton made the bigger achievement.

**** RIGHT OFF!

Hamilton won, because he was driving a car that could win. He only had 4 or 5 other drivers to beat, realistically. And to get into F1 is a ridiculously small chance. Not to mention he won only because a car in front broke! Plus he is a tax dodging gimp! :P

Chris Hoy won ALL his events at the Olympics and ALL his events at the World Championships. You can't do better than that.

Not to mention the scores of others AHEAD of Hamilton. Romero - Gold medal in Olympics and Worlds in a sport she only took up 3 years ago?!, Cooke - Gold in the Worlds and Olympics, the first women to do so in how many years??!! Wiggins - 2 Golds here to go with the ones he's had before?! Ainsley - Gold, for the 3rd time, and he can only enter 1 event - man against the elements and other men in boats that are the same, AND he neglected alot of preparation time to take part in the America's cup! What a guy! Adlington - A world record in one event and two gold medals! The first to do so in what? 70 years?!

How on EARTH is Hamilton winning the world championship in F1 the greater achievement. Especially in a sport as boring as that. It's dull, dull, dull, dull, dull. Bring in the same engines and gear boxes already and make it about the "best" drivers in the world.

I agree entirely with Neil, good post.

Hamilton won by a ballhair, Hoy destroyed everyone in his path.
