There are strong arguments for Hoy/Addlington or Hamilton.  The sportsman who will get my vote, however, is Ben Ainslie. Why?
1. He has won three gold medals in three consecutive Olympic Games - a feat very few Olympians worldwide have achieved in any sport
2.  Sailors have to contend not only with other competitors but also the treachery of the sea -becalming, fog, rough seas, all of which featured this year causing postponements and restarting -annoying when you are leading
3. The medal depends on  races over a week.
4. Britain's nautical skills should be cherished and encouraged.

I wouldn't be against Ben Ainslie winning it either. British Olympic legend and another one who should be voted ahead of Lewis Hamilton but won't be anywhere close.

Wish that was in June/July when I'd be there. Be pretty cool to go to.

How old (or young, should I say) is Adlington? She might get YPOTY.

She's 19 and therefore too old for the Young award.
