Euro 2012

I share the opinion that Walcott should get a start against Sweden, where England needs a win. I would probably drop Chemberlain or Young for Walcott, with him playing right, Milner in the middle and Welbeck/Carrol up front.

Minor point, but it's actually Ukraine the next game. Smile

Gah! Why on Earth did I think that? That's actually better as we probably have more chance of beating Sweden than Ukraine in Ukraine. Having said that, we seem to have played Sweden in virtually every single World Cup and Euro campaign that I can remember, either in qualifying or the finals, and I can't remember ever beating them aside from a friendly win last year.

My Mum is coming down to Wellington next Wednesday and I knew that was on the day of the England-Ukraine game meaning I have to leave for the airport right after the final whistle. That must have put it in my head that Ukraine was next for some reason. lol

Can see a win against Sweden and draw against Ukraine for Ingerland. Looked resolute and tough to break down today, something I haven't seen in an England team for a while!

Agree Andrew. I think we're clearly a couple of really top draw players short of doing any damage to the big sides in the business end of the tournament. Like I said in my earlier post, I think we'll make hard work of winning any games (and any wins will be scrappy 1-0 affairs) but I think we'll be reasonably tough to beat too. Don't think I'd expect to go out 4-1 like in 2010 anyway.

Really lacking a bit of quality in central midfield. Someone who can carry the ball out from deep and play quick and precise passes. We won't get that from Parker or Gerrard and like Arsenal all season, we really miss Wilshere in that regard. In his absence, Michael Carrick should be in the side. The other major deficiency is the obvious lack of a goal scorer.

Perhaps Scots do not comment as they have no interest and like Andy who made a comment which was taken out of context.

Tomorrow Germany-The Netherlands; Andy about this poule....

From his column;

These Euros will be very interesting and we’ve already seen a surprise with the Netherlands losing to Denmark, and Russia looking pretty strong.
That said, I have a feeling Germany will do well. They are a young team but those guys have all played at the highest level, and they have a lot of experience in there.

I'm not sure why permission was given for the Russian fans to march through Poland to celebrate Russia Day. Just asking for trouble.
