that is a cool picture... and gerard's goal was amazing! i was watching the second half and i said: "all i want to hear is these words: (insert england players name here) a shot, and SCORE!!!!!" and then 5 minutes later, after i started getting panicky, i hear: Beckham, a cross to Crouch, and SCORE!!!! it was awesome...

I was at tennis during the match.  ranting

But yea - in the last 10 minutes of the match (had it all worked out before hand Wink) we forced the coach to let us go and watch the match in the club house.

And we went in at the very second that Crouch scored the goal and all the coaches that were watching in the club house that weren't teaching at that moment started screaming and running about.  roflmao They also had a pint i think - after the football the coaches got quite jolly.  Whistle

But yea! w00t Not a bad match. Obviously... England have got miles to go...

But i thought Gerrard played really well. And Rooney.. i can't look at him without thinking.. FOOT.  pullhair

We were pathetic. Nothing short of awful, for 83 minutes at least.
Trinidad were a team of 2nd division players FFS. The best passes on the pitch came from Dwight Yorke who is about 100 years old, and most of the rest of them play for clubs like Wrexham. It would have been ok if we had at least looked like winning, but we never did.
Tbh, we have looked like one of the worst teams in the tournament so far. Absolutely bereft of ideas without Rooney on the pitch. Similar to the England rugby team of 3 or 4 years ago without Wilkinson.

We just lack someone that can actually run with the ball and beat defenders. That's where Aaron Lennon changed the game somewhat when he came on. Although he isn't great at crossing and doesn't have a lot of end product, at least a player like that with pace and the ability to beat players causes a bit of panic in the defence and at least creates a couple of openings and chances, and he was involved in the 1st goal too.
I have always defended Peter Crouch against people slaggin him off, but he really is a bit average isn't he? Awful miss off that sitter in the 1st half. Had time to control it, set himself up and place it past the keeper, but instead he thought he'd try a flying scissor kick, and in the 2nd half he got the ball in the box with his back to goal so flicked it up and tried a bicycle kick. Who did he think he was, Pele? FFS.
Gerrard is our best player yet Sven continues to play him in a more defensive role. Build the team around him ffs.

Fantastic commentary on our coverage when Dwight Yorke took Gerrard's shot in the bollox in the 1st half. "He's been hit in the Michael Ballacks." lol
Still, a win is a win and we are through to the next round and that's all that counts I guess. Brazil and co won't exactly be shaking in their boots just yet though.

Aaron Lennon was great... I'm quite keen to see Walcott play as well though...

Joe Cole has been poor. He's all stepovers and no end product. Why not try Lennon on the left?

i was very dissapointed in England's performance. although they dominated possesion they really have to realize that seeing as how the 2 goals they scored DID NOT fly from Rooney's foot, it is QUITE POSSIBLE that (dare i say it?) he is not a vital element in England's game!!! if they can just get this through their skulls then maybe, they'll be alright...

Guess what i heard on the news this morning - Rooney's foot. On the tube, i saw a Metro paper - back page, Rooney's foot and Sven's face. During lunch, conversation about Rooney's foot. Come back home - dinner - Rooney's foot. EVERY DAY!

As i told Alex...

Actually we do need him. We are a pretty average team with no idea whatsover without him.
How much of the qualifying games did you watch David? He is so much more than a goal scorer. The only player with a glimmer of creativity.
