New England Manager

Quote

I disagree slightly Bev. Why should a Brit who is not English be any better for England than a non-Brit? In my book, they are both not English and have no more or less allegiance to England than each other. In fact, the Brit probably dislikes England more than the non-Brit.
At the end of the day, a Scot, Welshman, or Northern Irishman is not English and is hence absolutely no different to Scolari being Brazilian. Only difference being they probably haven't had anywhere near the success he has had.
Anyway, there is not much left to debate. Mclaren's got it surely.

I see your point, slightly, but not all non-English hate England!  I would like an Englishman at the helm but feel that it would be unfair to take any manager away from their present side, I just feel that it's bad practice and I can't see that there is anyone available that would fill this, hence the reason why I'd be happy to settle for a Brit!  At least if the FA went for someone like O'Neill, then he at least speaks the language, has experienced the English league/europe and I think that he can handle the press.  I also think that he did a great job with Celtic.

McLaren's okay but wouldn't be my choice, although he's had a fantastic result with 'boro in Europe.

Yeah fair point, although still to me O'Neill is no less foreign than Scolari as he is not English.

No he's not, but he's not Brazilian nor Swedish either!  hug

True, but he also isn't English. So he is still a foreigner in my eyes and I'd prefer an English manager over him.
I never said I wanted Scolari in the 1st place, simply that he was a better manager than the other candidates. Ideally I'd prefer someone English.
However, given the choice between O'Neill and Scolari, both foreigners, give me the one who has won the World Cup thanks.

Alan Curbishley to leave his post at the end of the season - so might he be in the running now?  Don't know a lot about him.

He is a good manager if truth be told, but pretty soft spoken.

Let's have a consortium then!  roflmao

Or draw lots between players every game!   roflmao

Whoever, or should that be whomever (see spelling thread), gets the job will have a short 'grace' period, before the press and public rip into them!
