I know this is a bit early to start a thread but seen the captains have been named I might as well.

Nick Faldo is the European captain and the US captain was announced today as Paul Azinger. Also announced today was the new US qualification system where the captain will name 4 wildcard picks instead of just 2 and points will be based on money eared.  Full details

The 2008 Ryder Cup will be played at Valhalla GC in Louisville, Kentucky, USA from the 19th to 21st of September 2008

If it was the "ryder Cup 2007" I wouldn't mind, but it's 2008!!! Talk about getting ahead of yourself!

I'm not sure actually. You have to weigh things up - a good Ryder Cup history is not really enough, you have to have some current form, and Monty doesn't really have any. Clarke not being picked is more of a suprise, but again, the captain of a team (i.e. not just individuals playing golf) has to take more into account then the individual, and it could be he had some reason for not picking him. So i don't think we can say he got it wrong until we see what happens.

Faldo got photographed, with a long lense camera, with a list of pairings. Then in the press conference he claimed it was the list of what everyone wanted for lunch. lol Think

Bad day but all is not lost. We certainly have to win tomorrow. Anything less than 5-3 tomorrow and I reckon we're ****** because there's surely no chance the Yanks are going to get less than 4.5 out of 12 in the singles. You'd probably expect them to take at least half of the singles points so we probably need fairly close to the reverse score of today.

Lineup for the morning foursomes:

Cink/Campbell vs Rose/Poulter
Mahan/Leonard vs Jimenez/McDowell
Mickelson/Kim vs Stenson/Wilson
Furyk/Perry vs Harrington/Karlsson

Some strange decisions from Faldo IMO. Certainly Garcia should be left out based on today but I think leaving out Westwood is absolute madness. Should have stuck with the Westwood/Hansen pairing IMO. Looking at those matches, the 1st and 4th matches look like absolute must wins given how the other 2 American pairings played today. But you never know. Such an exciting tournament full of twists and turns.
