I think the problem with Flintoff's captaincy is - like you say - the pressure. How on earth can one man be expected to be chief bowler, batsman and captain? It's just not possible.
Anyone know why they didn't pick Strauss?

I think Alex should be the manager for all of England's squads... Then they might actually win some stuff...
That is a good point.

Good rant Alex
Thing is.....everyone calls for heads to roll (usually ex-players/media). Now this is a peculiarly British thing...not being able to accept defeat without a witch-hunt. There is no question in my mind that Australia were miles the better team, and we just have to deal with it. Give it a go in the final test and if they lose.....let's blame the injuries/wobblers/preparation/captaincy, think of it as a leaving present for Warney & McGrath....and get it right up 'em next time!

True. But this has been such a shambles that someone needs to be resonsible. There are many different excuses, but it does come down to the fact that we were not good enough and Australia were miles better. That's probably a factor not within out control, but there are plenty of things in our control that contributed such as the lack of preparation excuse, the ridiculous selection and then re-selections of Giles, Anderson, Jones and the captaincy for Flintoff. Lets not forget we threw away the 2nd test from an unloseable (that a word?) position we should have won from, and similarly the 3rd we threw away having been well in control after day 1. Had we prepared properly, selected the right team and consolidated the advantanges we've had throughout the series, I'm certain it would not be 4-0, soon to be 5-0 at the moment. In fact, I think we'd be going into this 5th test with THEM needing victory.

I concur. Give me complete power and I'll out with the dead wood and in with what needs to be done

Alex, you should look at the Cricket section on 606 and then post your rants if there not already there.

Alex has said a lot of what my cricketing friend who was visiting thought! Alas, he's gone home now and I have no-one to share my rants with, apart from on here.
unloseable = when defeat is snatched from the grasp of victory!

Oh dear. Anderson has come into the side to replace Hoggard who is presumably injured.
Rain has delayed the start. The weather gives us our best chance of prolonging the latest debacle tbh. Still, 3 and a half days I reckon.

England close on 234 /4...not bad, but Pietersen and Strauss suckered a bit for their wickets...Freddy & Collingwood still there and good for 67 between them. Losing Hoggard a blow.

Hmmm, it's all down to this partnership. If one of them goes early tomorrow, then the rest will fall like a pack of cards and Australia will begin their innings after lunch. If these 2 can stick around for a while, we might be able to get to something like 350 and least have something half decent to bowl with.

Oh, wondered what had happened to him - managed to see the match from 93/2 - Pietersen
what were you thinking? Didn't see Strauss go out so can't comment on that one.
