It was a goalscoring opportunity, but it has to be a clear, no questions asked, goalscoring opportunity - do you think it was that?

It was a definite penalty, as for the red card - it spoiled the game, but it's warranted considering the rules of the game - Abidal was last man.

Stonewall penalty. Glad France are out. They have been absolutely **** and the tournament is better off without them. Looking forward to the Netherlands - Italy rematch in the semi final.

Not so quick, Spain won't be a walkover!

They won't be a walkover but each time they come up against one of the top sides in one of these tournaments they generally surrender, in much the same way we do. Italy will beat them 2-0 and Netherlands will have no trouble against Sweden or Russia. IMO of course.
I don't think Spain have been all that spectacular. The 4-1 scoreline against Russia sounded fancy but certainly flattered them and they were rubbish against Sweden. The Italian defence will keep Villa out of the game.

Disagree.

Italy suck based on what I've seen so far. Think Spain will beat them.

Portugal vs Germany
Croatia vs Turkey
Holland vs Sweden or Russia
Spain vs Italy

then i think:

Portugal v Croatia
Holland v Spain

Portugal v Holland

Champions: Holland.

Italy have played sh*te so far but they did start to get it together against France and I believe they will lift enough to beat Spain. Although they are missing Pirlo through suspension and Gattusso I think. Think Germany will also beat Portugal because like Spain, Portugal generally look amongst the favourites early on and blow it when they get to the latter stages (see 2000, 2004 where they couldn't beat Greece in the final at home and 2006, while in 2002 they lost to the Yanks(!) and Korea in the group stage). And because you just can't bet against Germany at these tournaments.

So my prediction from a couple of pages back still stands. 2 re-matches in the semi finals.
Germany vs Croatia and Netherlands vs Italy. Germany certainly in the final and I did predict Netherlands initially but they too have a tendency to fall at a late hurdle. If Italy manage to lift enough to beat Spain, they are going to be a much tougher prospect than the side that showed up for the group match so I can see them beating Netherlands. But given the form Netherlands are and the fact that they appear to have the most straightforward quater final (at least on paper) in I will stick with my prediction and say a Germany - Netherlands final, which Germany will win. If Germany are not in the final, then the winner will come from the other side of the draw.

I 'm hoping your right Neil. I want Holland to win it, Portugal runners up and Spain to make the semis!

Like I said earlier, the Hiddink factor. They shouldn't beat Netherlands based on what we've seen so far but won't be all that surprised if Hiddink is in yet another semi final.
