She's favourite for BBC Sports Personality of the Year now.
And tbh, I can't argue with that. It's been a pretty terrible year for British sport. I can't even think of one other person who could be nominated for this year, let alone win, besides perhaps Andy Murray, but they will be struggling to find 3 or 4 others to fill up the nominations. Would've been Colin Montgomery had he managed a par at the 72nd hole of the US Open.

No, Zara Phillips is the daughter of Princess Anne and Cpt Mark Phillips (who isn't titled - it was offered as is traditional, but he refused) - Andrew & Fergie have 2 daughters called Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. As grand-daughter of the Queen, Zara is officially "Princess Zara" but is generally referred to simply as Zara Phillips except when on royal engagements.

As for nominations for Sports Person of the Year - the cricketer who became so prominent this year is also a contestant I believe.

Which cricketer would that be then? This year has been pretty poor in terms of cricket. Couple of good new players, but not exactly sports person of the year.
Then again, they will be scraping the bottom of the barrel this year for nominations.

Freddie was brilliant in India but has hardly played since then. KP.....hmmmm..... he should get a nomination this time. Last year he was better than he is this year but Freddie was too good. You sort of have to give a nomination to a cricketer, can't give it to Cook and Freddie has played too little, so it's Pietersen for me.

If it was a cricketer it would be Monty Panesar. Would be a good winner for the BBC and the government in terms of PR as well. You've got to remember that we still have the Ryder Cup to come this year as well. Also its a shame for Nicole Cooke that she won't stand a chance but she is possibly the most deserving candidate this year.

Ah yes I forgot the Ryder Cup is coming. And we also picked up a few medals in the rowing these past few days.
I have to ask though, who is Nicole Cooke? (sorry for my ignorance)

See her victories on her webpage here. She's a young Welsh cyclist who won the female Tour de France this year and leads the womans World Cup standings.

I meant him, but didn't have a clue how to pronounce or spell his name  Rolling Eyes

Nah... they can't give it to Panesar. No reason apart from PR. no

The only ones who have really impressed this year are Cook and Pietersen.

Spell... okay, you'll obviously get it.

Can you pronounce "Mudhsuden Singh Panesar"? Little tongue man

What's he done to get British sports personality of the year?
I'd have Panesar, Collingwood, Bell, Cook and Strauss all ahead of him just for cricketer of the year tbh.

Panesar certainly won some fans this summer Smile

There's still time yet for some other sports personalities to shine  Whistle

Joe Calzaghe, Boxer, from wales. He's currently the king of super middleweight division. He unified two titles and will probably get a nomination. See hereand here
