'Ugly' Agassi Sampras exchange

Reply

There's been a lot in the tennis news about how things got 'ugly' between Agassi and Sampras during the Hit for Haiti charity doubles. Have a look. Does anyone agree with me that Sampras took Agassi's jokes pretty well and didn't seem offended in the least?

I'm almost certain Pete was offended, that got very uncomfortable out there.

Saying Pete is a poor tipper is hardly a big deal though, right? I wouldn't be offended by it.

I tend not to tip because the price of food at a restaurant is expensive and the service is naturally one of the reasons for that. Just because tippers have low wages doesn't mean you should feel obligated to tip them, I don't tip the rubbish man.

I just thought the atmosphre was pretty uncomfortable anyway - it usually is where athletes are trying to be something they're not (comedians). Throw in some pretty dull, 75%-effort tennis and it gets even worse. Agassi was just trying to liven things up.

I think Agassi was innocently trying to liven it up but Pete took it the wrong way. But it's also possible Pete tried to liven it up and Andre took it the wrong way and therefore did a joke that he knew would piss Pete off. Who knows. What I do know is one of those guys, if not both, was offended.

Yes, but Sampras probably has a personal fortune of about 30-40 million dollars. lmao The culture of tipping is also very different in America.

But he may not tip out of principle if he thinks the same way I do about it.

Yes, this is true and one of the things I hate about America lol

I think at least one of them was genuinely pissed off. Sampras did seem a bit annoyed by the tipping thing and Agassi's 'all fun and games until someone gets hurt' seemed quite serious, despite saying it with a smile.

It was like the start of Reservoir Dogs! lol

Nah, I just watched it again. Sampras is grinning throughout. I thought they both took it all in good spirits. They hugged at the net at the end, too. But then I have the social skills of an autistic skunk and don't read people too well...

My emotional IQ is exceptional, Pete was upset.

But seriously, it seems so clear to me when I watch it.
