I just want Andy to keep improving next year. 2012 saw him be far more assertive on his forehand wing which was a vast improvement and he also defended his 2nd serve very well throughout the course of the year.

In 2013 he should be looking to come to the net more to finish points off. Andy is a very good volleyer with good technique and would make life a lot easier if he came in behind some big groundstrokes. I hope he can keep progressing as if he does we are in for a treat.
He also needs to be much more consistent.  Fortunately he fully realises this and in an interview in yesterday's Herald admitted he needs to play consistently from the start of every tournament.  Unfortunately saying he knows what he needs to do is one thing, actually putting it into effect quite another.  However he also said he feels much more motivated now, so we can but wait and see.  I'm not expecting an overnight miracle here but would certainly be looking for a significant improvement by Wimbledon.

Nice prediction on Del Potro, glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't think he will be a one slam wonder.

hmmm a lot of you are putting Andy at number 2.   confused  yes it makes sense  considering the season Nole and Andy have had this year but   I don't think Andy has  the consistency to reach number 2, just yet .   I still think he might be hovering between 3 and 4 next year.   Although Andy did say he was going to improve his consistency.  Prove me wrong Andy  Smile

Courage doesn't always roar - but wins Wimbledon

Okay people, bold prediction time, or maybe not. I think Andy will win two majors next year, maybe three. I'm in two minds about the USO just now, but I think it will be between Andy and Novak.

My slam predictions

AO Murray
FO Nadal or Djokovic, Nadal if fit.
Wimbledon Murray
USO Djokovic or Murray

I know I'm on the fence a bit, but the AO and Wimbles are clear in my mind.

I don't want to get in to rankings too much, except that I'd be surprised if Andy isn't well in the mix for No.1 by the time the USO comes around, maybe before.

Also have a feeling Delpo might go top five if he continues to develop. Don't see another slam though, not for him. Course, I could be wrong lol. I just don't think he is consistent enough.

Andy knows he needs to be consistent next year, and he will do it. I'm in no doubt that we have yet to see the full 'major win' effect for Andy. I feel a confident 2013 coming on.  I can see at least a couple of Masters wins for him.

Only reason Delpo hasn't been consistent is because of his injury. But in the second half this year he's been very consistent imo, he's slowly improving and will win another slam.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't begrudge Delpo another, especially if it was to come after Andy wins a second slam, but I would be a bit surprised. He has improved though, I agree with that, and has been more solid in the latter part of this year.

Ah but John, what you're suggesting is that Andy's development will stall next year. You're entitled to that opinion, but personally I don't see it. Andy has come a long way this year, arguably not changing his game hugely, but developing the skills to move his game forwards, being more aggressive, improving his forehand and second serve, and I'm sure others would notice other developments.

Andy not moving up, or not at least closing the gap on 2 in the world, would surely mean that he had gone backwards, and I don't see that happening, even if Federer is still challenging and Nadal comes back fully fit. I certainly don't see Andy back at 4.

When was the last time he caused any of the top five a problem outdoors, Olympics aside? Djokovic and Federer have beaten him with absolute ease in all of their matches in 2012 bar two indoor tournaments at the end of the year and the Olympics. Murray has rarely faced many problems against him in the past, and I'd argue that Del Potro isn't even playing at the level he was then, whilst Murray has improved quite noticeably.

Until he starts beating any of the top 5 on a semi-regular basis I just don't see how he can be considered a serious Slam contender.
