More importantly, he admits lying to the tennis authorities... interesting.

Even more interesting than that ^ - why is he now admitting this? Does he feel he's above the law? How does he explain all this to his children who undoubtedly will read the book at some point? His wife must have condoned this "confession" - what does that say about her?

^ Isn't he a Born Again Christian, or did I just make that up? If so, maybe confession is good for the soul, and all that stuff.

Don't know about the Christianity thing .... the sad thing for me is the disallusionment - he is so beloved by his fans, that a lot of them will find it hard to overlook this. I also think that Agassi has fallen in love with his own voice to a very large extent, and loves a platform nowadays. Sad sad ... would you own up to something like this, perhaps just for the sake of it, knowing your children will read it, knowing you will drop in their estimation ....

Keeping secrets like that are hard, suppose it got too much for him and saying it in a biography makes a lot of sense rather than releasing it to the press as some separate story.

^ I dunno, Daisy. People are human and make mistakes. Maybe he felt he couldn't live with the lie any more?
Children will always have difficulty accepting their parents are flawed human beings, I guess, but this revelation is pretty 'big'.

Of course keeping secrets is a hard thing to do ..... in this case, revealing it was also a very shortsighted thing to do. He should have kept it to himself, for the sake of those who love him.
Very disappointed with him ...

Not sure about your comment in regards to the wife, since when has a confession ever been a bad thing? Whether it's hard to take or not, the more truth known in this world, the better.

I agree that everyone makes mistakes .... sometimes it is better to keep them to yourself.
For me, when I find out that someone has been lying to me in any given area, I am very wary of them from then on. He obviously does not feel that way.

I'm not suggesting that confession is necessarily a bad thing ..... just depends who gets hurt by it. That's why, as you pointed out, it's very hard to keep some secrets. Baring your soul perhaps makes you feel better, but at whose expense.
The best example I can think of to demonstrate this point is the old one of ...... a man/woman has an affair which is now over and which his/her partner is unaware of. Should he/she confess?

Oh come on, he did drugs for a bit... it's not like he murdered someone! Who is honestly going to be hurt by this for more than maybe a few hours at most? He did the right thing, for himself and the public.

Yes this might technically be a selfish act but it's still good for everyone.
It's not the substance abuse that bothers me - he's entitled to engage in anything he wants to ..... it's the lying to the authorities, getting away with it, and then, almost bragging about it in a book.
But what I think about it doesn't amount to a hill of beans - just think he has tarnished his image now with this revelation.

By confessing he is technically doing a selfish act but it's better for everyone that the truth is known, he's would have known his reputation would be seriously harmed by this revelation so he certainly wasn't bragging about it to any degree.

Who do you have in mind when you say this? What makes it better?
