Contrary to the feelings of some on here Whistle I have no problems with Ferrer making it to the WTF since he's one of my fave players.

Same here Aileen - pleased that he's qualified. Smile He usually does well at the WTF - he was unlucky not to make the semis last year after winning 2 matches.

Delpo and Berdych are virtually assured of qualifying too, and it'll be interesting to see how Federer, Wawrinka, Gasquet, Tsonga and Raonic do in Shanghai - important tournament for their race standing. Federer and Gasquet are due to meet in R3.

Haven't seen Gasquet or Stan play in real life, so would love them to qualify for the O2.

I feel the same, but the winner will probably face Djokovic, and that could be interesting if it's Fed.

Meanwhile Sharapova has pulled out of the WTA finals due to an ongoing shoulder injury - http://bleacherreport.com/tb/dbqKZ?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=tennis

Nadal believes previous tennis eras cannot match the excitement generated by the current stars of the sport

"Sampras v Ivanisevic match, or one between those kind of players, is not enjoyable, It's not really tennis, it is a few swings of the racquet.

For me, in the past it was just serve, serve, serve."

Out go Dimitrov and Tomic, only Poppit triumphs.
Hewitt, Gasquet and Simon too. Think S is still carrying injuries.

Good win for Delpo earlier over Kohlschreiber. He was suffering from a fever and lost the first set but won the match in a third set tiebreak (after failing to serve the match out).

Kohlschreiber seems to play a lot of close matches against the top players but just can't quite beat them.

Ferrer down a set and a break v Florian Mayer.

Fed down a set to Monfils.

Tsonga went through v Nishi 7-6 6-0, and Delpo through with w/o as Haas withdrew

Ferrer lost in straights to Mayer - it's been a tough second half of the season for him. I don't think it's a coincidence that the slump in form has come after his Wimbledon ankle injury. I suspect that things won't improve too much for him this season - he needs a break.

On the positive side, at least Andy's number 3 spot should be safe. Hope Haas's back injury isn't serious, it doesn't sound too good.

Delighted Ferrer lost. I caught the last couple of games. His behaviour was odious kicking a hoarding, throwing his racket down and stomping off.

Rooting for Tsonga now.
