Is the difference merely because the men concerned are long dead ?  Surely the principle is the same
As imitation has always been the sincerest form of flattery this whole thing is being handled badly
Harman must have had desperate personal problems to do such an obviously silly thing and should just have his contracts cancelled quietly
As for the wimbledon handbook for 2013 rather than cast them upon a bonfire because they contain Harman's last contributions They should be carefully kept as they will be collectors items in the future   Who proof read the thing anyway?

Personal problems? You do know things don't have to happen 'because of'. I could punch someone and injure them really badly, and when the police ask me in the interview why I did it, I could just say 'because I wanted to'. I think this is the case with Harman, he wanted to be a bit too clever with what he's good at, unfortunately he was caught.

The fact that there were plagiarisms in the past is no excuse. There were murders and thieving for even longer, does that make them OK?

No. I was only making the point that because something was done in the past does not make it OK now.

OK I should have written

Such an unforgiving lot of posts..... It must be very difficult to think of something original to say  when you've been writing on tennis for years
After all plagiarism is nothing new, there's  been hot debate on whether Shakespeare actually wrote the stuff attributed to him Other scribes eg Ben Jonson, Francis Bacon et al are quite as likely to be the authors and yet  English depts in schools and universities still endlessly shove the plays into their curriculum and say its Shakespeare's work
I just have to hope that in all my publications I hav'nt forgotten to attribute someone else's work in the proper manner

The fact that there were plagiarisms in the past does not mean that they are acceptable today.

Finding something original to say because you've been writing about it for years isn't an excuse for stealing stuff from other writers' articles either verbatim or very nearly so without acknowledging it.  Harman was an experienced journalist so he should have been well able to mix things up himself without resorting to this anyway.

I completely agree Aileen, but I don't think 'anyone' should bring back capital punishment so they can hang him either!  Whistle
