Who do you think was the best player during the 1970's? Could it be one of the choices above? if you think  could it be Evonne Goolagong,Tracy Austin, or even John Newcombe vote other.

1970s and not 1970's is more widely used I believe. wink
Although technically 1970's is correct. Smile

Anyway....
How can we possibly put Ginny Wade and Borg under the same poll? dontknow
I wont vote but will give separate opinions for Men's and Women's.

Has to be Borg in the Men's. Grand Slam titles both on clay and grass show both his quality and variation.

And it depends what you want in Women's, the best player who played in the 70s at some point of their career or the best player during the 70s.
I will go for Margaret Smith-Court in the first and Billie Jean King in the second category. Smile

No I hate to disagree with both of you. I believe that as 1970s is called such because it is almost a plural of 1970 (as in the set  of years under the band 1970) that it's not actually correct to use an apostrophe here. It's not 1970 is, nor are you talking of something belonging to 1970 (i.e. 1970's christmas number one, or 1970's best player- being the best player of 1970 the year not the decade) then it doesn't have an apostrophe. It's quite simple when you look at it that way. Are you missing out letters? is it possesive? If not, no apostrophe!

Damnation. shocking

What was I saying for so long???

1970's is wrong. Its totally wrong. It refers to the best player of the year 1970. wink

1970s is the best choice. Very Happy It refers to the best player of the decade.

1970s' is a rather awkward way to construct it, but is technically right. It means the best player belonging to the decade.

Its really nice when you get pedantic with your own self. woohoo

The title should be changed, its really wrong.
