ATP/WTA Tour - The Other Players

What happened to the Fognini of yesterday?  Woeful performance in the first against Andujar.  Playing much better in the second though.

Well he was for the first few games then allowed Adujar to dominate again and go on to take the match.
It makes one appreciate all that Andy does to stay in the top four .

Unbelievable choking from David, a real shame I think the pressure of knowing this was his best chance of finally winning Barcelona got to him and he has not played convincingly all week- a shadow of how he has played for the rest of the season.

Yeah I think that was it - the pressure just got to him. He talked before the match about how he'd swap any of his 500-level titles for Barcelona, so he obviously wanted this title badly. Shame he couldn't do it.

Though given their respective forms today, Nishikori would have won the final easily. I don't think he'll have too many problems against Andujar tomorrow.

It is rather sad that sometimes when players want to win a tournament really badly, then rather than spurring them on it has the opposite effect.  Also Ferrer must be aware that his time left on the Tour is becoming increasingly limited, and that won't help either.

Interesting that Navratilova has given basically the same reason for quitting as Lendl did, underestimating the amount of travel involved in coaching.
Terrific matches yesterday, Pablo v David and Caro v Simona

I think Navratilova's might be an excuse and she may have been sacked by Aga. As Aga has had a pretty awful start to the year.

According to the comms Simona has a back problem, but I thought she was soooo gutsy, especially in the third set when Caroline was serving for the match! Simona's my favourite player....second only to Andy of course! Very Happy
