Novak Djokovic

Gnome no I started to dislike Nole before his winning run against Andy although I've always been ambivalent about him as I think he's quite quixotic.  He's a good loser and an awful winner.   I think he's a better loser than Andy (though Andy has got better on that score) but I hate his macho celebrations when he wins.  The one I hated most actually was when he beat Rafa once and went mad on a car afterwards.   But again he does seem to have calmed down a bit on that score too.  So my dislike of his gamesmanship has to be understood in that context and not the context of his winning streak against our man.

I too have disliked Djokovic for a very long time and he has become worse since Becker came on board.  When Becker was playing he was known to win at all costs.  I feel that Andy has top ignore his antics and realise he is more than capable of beating him on all surfaces.

I like Novak.  Don't have a problem with his playing style.  Still want Andy to beat him hollow, mind :-)

What I don't get with Andy and the Novak injury-faking is how Andy got so wound up in the AO final yet shrugged off blatant gamesmanship (the MTO) at 5-2 in the final set when he was about to serve for his first slam title. If he was above it then, he must surely be above it now.

Well they are at different stages in the match for a starters the MTO coming within potentially Murray one game away and serving for his first Grand Slam title so probably was just concerning himself with where he was going to serve on the first point etc...

The AO being when Murray had established a lead and with Novak's body apparently failing him completely, Andy unfortunately allowed himself to think ahead to winning his first AO (I believe he has admitted this in a recent interview).

I don't blame Novak for "netgate" I think that was the umpires fault as he had a clear view of the incident. You see very few players admit to doing things like that and I don't think Novak is any different in that. Although I do remember for periods last year when Andy was giving up a few points, with the one against Verdasco at RG one that sticks quite clearly in my mind.

Novak's quote afterwards that he didnt understand that the rule was you couldnt hit the ball on the other side of the net without it having bounced on your side first... which I don't believe for a second... hence the anger from many. (he did it to save his sportmanlike reputation imho)

I don't trust Novak.   Don't like the company he keeps.   I feel that gamesmanship can progress to cheating and that has happened with Novak.    It was up to the umpire to decide against Novak at netgate but he didn't and that left the way open for Novak to do the right thing.    He didn't.    Indeed, he claimed he didn't know it was against the rules!!!!

tamila I agree re Becker.  I'd hoped that at least we'd be spared him as a commentator when he joined Nole's camp but he still seems to pop up sometimes.

Agreed! In my mind it was a rhetorical question but I thought I'd post it on here given all the flak Nole's been getting recently.

I'd forgotten this thread even existed, which might have been a good thing given my own feelings about the 'gentleman'!  I was hoping Nadal would beat him today and take some of the wind out of his egotistical sails, but as far as I'm concerned now Berdy might as well not bother turning up.  He just hasn't got what it takes mentally to beat Djoko, nor has he the game.

Ditto.  Even beginners know you don't hit the ball once it's on the other side of the net.  Also I don't think it's just coincidence that he's become even more unpleasant since he took creepy Becker on board. yuk

So what?  No big deal that at this stage of the season.  I'm more interested in the rankings anyway, which was the ONLY reason why I didn't want Nadal to beat him!

As I have said before Becker always said 'he would do anything in order to win'.

"I actually like the guy, and his record against Andy won't change that. I will call Novak every name under the sun when he plays Andy, but i personally won't start hating on him just because he's one of Andy's biggest rivals."

 Good posting!

funny video too.
