Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

Federer did not look too happy when Murray said' hopefully I can beat you in the final of the US Open'
It'd be extremely inflammatory and unprofessional if it was said in anything other than jest ....
Sorry, but I don't recall Andy saying that exactly.  He did make some comment about meeting Fed in the USO but he was being jocular.  Maybe not the wisest thing to say to "the King", but it won't be the first time Andy's sense of humour has been misunderstood.

OK, so Andy's teeth are a little unusual - what's known as "snaggletoothed" - but they're part of him and his personality and in fact give him a sort of rakish look.  Doesn't stop him smiling freely at other times.  Perhaps the tweeter would have a real shudder at this picture - Murray's victory smile [from the STV website] Smile   If Andy wasn't happy about them he could well have afforded the necessary dental work to make them look "nice".

murray was just joking but Fed didn't look happy about it. Probably because he had just lost.

Welcome to MW, Jiri.  Guess I must have misheard.  Andy should know by now that Federer is the worst loser in today's game, so it was maybe a bit naughty of him.

Thanks, I think Fed will become a 'better loser' in the next few years once he starts getting used to it.

I could be wrong, but somehow I can't see Fed ever becoming a better loser, certainly if he gets beaten in a Slam final.  Reckon if he starts losing tournaments too often over the next 2 years, and his ranking drops as a result, I think he'll retire rather than "lose face", although he could still continue playing in the Senior Tour.

At last an article which doesn't treat Fed as 'the great man' and suggests that he has been 'less than dignified' in defeat:

Nice article Very Happy   Amazing how Roger whinged about aches and pains after his Toronto defeat, yet just the other day he was bragging that he had never felt so well or so fit as he does now.  What an amazing recovery! lol

I'm a big lover of the Fed. Am I missing something? I'd always thought of him as gracious and, well, really rather suave!

I know Rafa's meant to be a lovely boy and all that but I just prefer Fed. He got me into tennis in the first place - "HELLO!"  Little tongue man

Yes, tennis is largely about the eye candy for me and, no, I'm not interested in the women's. So what?!

I remember Fed as a spotty arrogant teenager who was very bad tempered. He only won a slam at 23 so Andy has good a chance as he had. Andy is very dry humoured so that would confuse the Fed as he is Swiss anyway why shouldn't Andy say he hoped he would beat him? He is only a tennis player after all not God!

He actually won Wimbledon just before he turned 22. Not sure why it was reported that he won his first major at 23.

It's easy to be gracious when you always win. We saw his true colours when he lost his dominance over the sport.
