What do you want, Tommy - healthy players turning in good performances, or playing badly or losing because they're struggling with niggling injuries they can't shake off?  The game is a lot more physical than it used to be and players in the past did less travelling around the world.  I'd even go so far as to say that the number of mandatory tournaments should be cut.

The idea of Rafa, Fed, Andy, Djoko & Co being wimps is totally laughable!

I personally think they should just shut up and play the tour the way it is. If they don't want to do that....stop playing on the tour.

Er, nein.

Also in the days of L & N players didn't jump onto planes the way they do now.  The Aussies left Australia after the AO and travelled by sea to the next set of tournaments, and after Wimbledon most players sailed across the Pond to the US.  Hardly stressful stuff.

Thats more of a reason as to why the tour should not be cut.

Even finely tuned athletes need rest because of the amount of training they need to do in order to achieve this.  It seems pointless for them to have just one week's holiday and then they're back training for the Australian leg of the tour.  There's a limit to what punishment the human body can take.  However, I can see that nothing anyone says will convince you! When you think how taxing the tour is for the players, it makes me laugh when footballers start whinging about playing three matches in ten days or whatever.

The point is, they don't have to do the three matches thing very often.  Then there's the fact they get paid whether they are playing or not whereas tennis players have to play to earn (until they are famous enough to get the huge sponsorships and ad deals).

As a couch potato I just say that all sport people have to do a lot of work which they then have to showcase by playing their best come the race, match etc that they compete in...rather them than me lol Also that it's very hard to compare how much effort/who has to work harder...but I would say that tennis players so have one of the longest years and also tend to do the most training in the off season yes As Tas said, they're also more personally dependent on their own financial well-being Smile
