ITV's Roland Garros coverage
« on: June 10, 2012, 01:33 PM »
Just a word to pay tribute to ITV's coverage of Roland Garros. What a debut. All the best comms, including the wild card, Jim Courier, who's been a revelation with his quiet, intelligent insights. Inverdale slick as ever as anchor. Match coverage spot on, including timely updates from key matches elsewhere. A masterclass in tennis coverage. Hope it's not a one-off. More, please.

Ah. And then they wheel out Nick Mullins for the final. He's been the one minus point for me. Doesn't really bring anything to the commentary.

Agreed. Makes a change to the joke that is Adrian Chiles and the football coverage.

"Rarely do musicians move this well. Especially if they're carrying a violin. Or a giant tuba."
It's the Alan Partridge school of tennis commentary.

Totally agree Nige, and Courier certainly delivers the goods.

Totally agree. Jim Courier has been a revelation to me as a punter. Insightful, knowledgeable, informative with brilliant one-line takes on the action which surely merit collection and publishing by some avid fan.

Apparently in one match he commented that one of the players was "being taken to the woodshed......and being beaten like a ginger stepchild".
Then adding "and as a ginger stepchild, I can say that"

I've sent a congratulatory email too - picking out Jim C and their use of French comms such as Santoro in particular. Also a mention of Mark P who I think is always fair. And said I hope they'll extend their tennis coverage as breath of fresh air after eurosport.

Me too. Special mention Santoro and Jimbo. Said I hoped they got Wimbles, USOpen and AO too. Might send one to Beeb on those lines
