John McEnroe was the greatest all round player of the Open Era

All the talk of Federer being the GOAT or that one day Nadal will overtake him.  My favourite player has always been McEnroe his stats speak for themselves.  He played and beat the likes of Borg, Lendl, Connors.  He was equally as good at singles and doubles winning slams in both in the same year.  Most modern players (unless they are specialist)  view doubles as a serious option once you are to old for singles.  He had a great passion and belief in himself which is great to see in Andy.  I am also a great fan of the fast volleying tennis he played I hate matches that are just slugged out from the back of the court.  A summary of his main stats area below.

Career Summary
Captured an Open Era record 155 singles and doubles titles during his career (77 singles, 78 doubles)
17 Grand Slam crowns (seven singles, nine doubles, one mixed)
Ranked 170 weeks at No. 1 in singles (fifth-best)
all-time record 270 weeks at No. 1 in doubles

Stakes a good claim, but I place Sampras/Fed and even Borg above Johnny Mac.

Don't forget that he also holds the best annual win/loss record.
