Question: Just how dull is doubles to watch?
...as dishwater?
...as watching paint dry?
...as watching paint dry while doing the dishes?
...as watching the contestants of Big Brother 9 watching paint dry while doing the dishes?
Are you mad? Doubles tennis is the very essence of tension, excitement and seat-wetting breathless anticipation at every point!  I pity the fool who disagrees!

I'd rather watch paint drying than doubles.

The mind doubts, but the heart never does.

OK.... I was being very flippant before.  I think a lot of the pleasure in watching doubles matches is lost on TV.  Watching live makes the matches much more exciting because you can see a lot of the shots close up.

So, for me, doubles on TV..... no  But live....  yes

If at first you don't succeed, you fail.

The thing I like about doubles is the complexity of the strategy. It's a lot harder to get two people out of position than it is to get one person. My favorite thing to do in doubles personally is to draw the second player into the net and then volley between them.

Exactly, I doubt many people complained when Jamie won Wimbledon and when there's clear chemistry it can be so fun to watch and it's faster and, it gets you more on the edge of your seat. If you don't like it, you're watching the wrong people play!

it's miles better than women's tennis.

and jamie won wimbledon MIXED doubles. not the MENS doubles title. MIXED doubles means nothing. jamie has achieved nothing in his career and is only famous due to having world class partners and a decent little brother.  the top guys finally realised what a dud he is and now look where he is ranked, british no.5 and bout 150 till delgy and marray carried him to a couple of challengers.

I prefer watching Singles as there can be more varieties.  You can draw the other person into the net then lob them or pass them to the left or right.  You can try outright winners by playing angled cross court shots, or power shots down the line.  Alternatively, you can draw them left then right, and run them ragged.  There is also the Serve and Volley as in the Doubles game.

With Doubles, the problem is that playing against the person already at the net is high risk (because you need to hit the ball hard to draw a mistake) unless you try to lob them which is not a good option either when that person is tall.  This means most of the time returning the ball cross court.  This makes the play predictable and hence boring to some people.

I would not say that Doubles is boring, but rather Singles is more unpredictable and hence more exciting.
