I was just wondering if anyone knew of any clubs in Portsmouth that take on teenages who are complete beginners. I can only seem to find ones who have lessons for beginners who are 8+. I don't fancy training with kids half my age!! Any help would be great!! Thanks!!

This reminds me of when I went to this coaching session once for the first time.... I was about 15 and all the other kids were about 8 apart from this other girl who was the same age as me!

I'm 19 and i really don't want to be in a class with 8 year olds. I teach swimming and in one class i had a 3 year old and a nine year old. Lets just say neither were too impressed!!

theres numerous clubs in portsmouth: the southern electric tennis club, the indoor tennis centre, southsea tennis club, the avenue ltc, alverstoke tennis, badminton and squash club, denmead tennis club, lee-on-the-solent tennis club, horndean ltc, swanmore ltc and harbpur way country club- all within 10 miles of portsmouth.

edit: if you have google earth and woudllike the postcodes of any of the club just say so in the topic and ill give them to you.

know how you feel mathlete! me and my friend when to this tennis clubs open day. when we turned up there were all these little kids below 8 years old! it was really embarassing as they seemed to be better than us! and if that wasn't bad enough a big group of boys turned up who obviously played regulary and sat and watched  |

Thats what i'm worried about Brighton Babe. I've emailed my Uni Tennis Club and they seems really friendly in their reply and said that there were other beginners too!! I thought i might as well learn how to play it then i would understand all the tennis jargon too!!!

go for it Mathlete! you haven't got anything to loose. OR take a friend along at least then you can have a laugh! we still did even though we looked really stupid. and believe me you couldn't really get in a more embarrasing situation then i did! hope it goes well  |

i got all the info from the lta website. its a darling of a club finder! you can set a radius of 5,10,15,20 or whatever number of miles from your postcode so you can go to the nearest place to you. theres nothing to stop you mathlete. tennis is a great sport. youre never too old to start.  GO MATHLETE!! |

The first year was absolute hell for me, I couldn't hit one single ball, still me as a quiter, I didn't quit... Painful as it was to play next to very good players, I still practised and now I can even steer the ball to where I want it to go   What I'm trying to say in this ridiculous sentences above is that you need to hang in there and it will be so fun!!!  I really sounded like an old lady in the first words! |

Only 4 days till my first tennis lesson and i'm so excited!! It's gonna be so funny as the last time i played was in P.E when i was about 13, i struggeled to hit the ball never mind hit it over the net!!
