I really doubt this victory means Fed is back, I think he'll get a short burst of confidence but I don't think he'll even get to the finals of RG.

I can't help it Julia, it's so boring to see such utter dominance if you're not a Rafa fan! Whilst I can appreciate how sublime he is on clay, it's so demoralising as a neutral tennis fan to know that Rafa is going to win every clay tournament, only the 4 hour marathon yesterday stopped him from winning today, he looked out of form.

It's like F1 with Schumacher in the late 90s/early 00s - fans turned off in their droves, relentless domination is boring to watch, IMO.

You never seem to complain about Federer sweeping everything for 4 years, do you think Rafa is less worthy of being so dominant? I can understand your complaints a few years ago when Rafa only had his RG titles but he has clearly proven himself on all surfaces. I hope today made things less boring for you. Razz

give it a break, Andrew and Julia... we all know you're only arguing so you can kiss and make up later!  Rolling Eyes Smile

Quite looking forward to RG this year... lots of points up for grabs and plenty of opportunity for upsets and surprises yes

So Fed won.  clap  Doubt it will make any difference at Roland Garros though.

Rafa: Playing four hours was not a problem for today. Roger was much better than me and deserved to win.

Fed:
I don't think he's going to take any damage away from this. I'm sure he's going to be rock solid in Paris again.

I thought I took all the right decisions today and in the end it looked pretty comfortable so it was a perfect win for me," Federer said afterwards.

I'm very, very happy that I stayed positive and I got the win I needed badly because I've had some rather bad losses this year. It's very satisfying.

MTF is repulsive :P Why there are 6000 replies to a thread named 'Making a total mess in Madrid 2009 and jeopardizing RG' in the Rafa section is beyond me.

That's a general chat thread. There are a few massive ones. The thread in the Rafa forum is one of the most popular. The subject line always changes, so most of those posts won't be about Madrid.
