Hardly in the best circumstances though. Think

Quote
Amelie Mauresmo finally claimed her first Grand Slam title when Justine Henin-Hardenne was forced to retire during the Australian Open final.

Mauresmo was leading 6-1 2-0 when Henin-Hardenne told the umpire she could not continue as she complained of having "no energy".

What an anti-climx. Feel sorry for Henin. Mauresmo wouldn't have wanted to win that way either, she would have loved to have been able to serve for the championship and win that last point and celebrate properly etc. Bit of a bittersweet way to win your first grand slam.
She had 3 people retired against her throughout the tournament.....

Henin didn't deserve it. I just hate the way she puts her little hand up before matchpoint en the way the yells for a medical time out when she's tired. Good for Mauresmo.  Rolling Eyes

MAkes you wonder if there should be some rule whereby if Justine knew she couldnt compete the one of the semi finalists could have played the final instead...

yeah i would have thought that would be sensible however i suppose noone would want to pull out of the final if they have even the smallest chance of competing and winning

It's also likely I'm imagining things Wink If it's for my opinion, Justine is a nasty player! Very catty, as I read Dementieva had to be the cattiest player ever.

Typical for Henin... I can describe her in one word: FAKE! I'm sure it was bad if she had to give up... But I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little overstatement!
 Eh?
