That's interesting Hazy. Makes you wonder how any player can afford to play at Queens though. Unless Nadal has a big entourage with him.

It's also why Usain Bolt and sundry others won't compete in any of the Diamond League events that are held in the UK.  They are expected to pay tax not only on their appearance money and winnings but also on any sponsorship deals on a pro rata basis.  Seemingly, the government have relaxed the ruling for the Olympics in case any of the better known athletes decided to boycott it.  To my mind, it's absolutely ridiculous - why should we expect them to pay tax here as well as in their own country - we should be encouraging these world class athletes to come to the UK not putting them off, or am I being too simplistic?

Because he has more sponsorship deals than almost anyone else, discounting the rest of the top 4. Roger and Nole don't play Queen's anyway and it's different for Andy because he is British Shrug

Interesting. Anderson and Ward are getting a 10 minute warm up with a ball change after 5 minutes.

Don't see much hope for Ward here really, unfortunately.

Looking forward to the Baker/Golding match, I just hope if it's not covered on BBC then there will be a stream available.

And, strangely, the site I usually use for streams has the likes of Bambridge and Goodall in the doubles at Nottingham, but not the Baker/Golding match.  Neutral

If anyone could find a stream for that match it would be much appreciated. Not sure if it's being shown elsewhere on tv or not.

Ward wins his first point on the Anderson serve from a DF but then Anderson aces the next point for a 2-1 lead.

Ward serving well so far but struggling to get his returns in or deep. 3-3.

Ward breaks. Surprised 5-4, chance to serve for the set here. This will be interesting.

Ward takes the first set 6-4 against the 9th seed! Wow, now here's a turn-up for the books.

Elsewhere Mahut is a break up (4-3) against Garcia-Lopez (winner faces Murray), Baker and Golding are 4-4, Roger-Vasselin and Korolev are on serve, Ramirez Hidalgo and Darcis on serve, and Ebden and Bachinger are.. yep you guessed it, on serve.

Hard to believe this is the guy who trounced Andy 3&1 at Montreal last year. confused

Anderson breaks Ward in the 4th game of the third set. Ward saved the first BP with a cracking down-the-line pass, but after a big serve on the 2nd BP he then got lax on the next shot and Anderson was able to force him into an error at the net.

Ward then went 0-40 up on the next game, but unfortunately Anderson has saved all three BP's. Ward just a bit too wild on some shots and particularly the passing shots which usually go well wide and/or long. Couple of aces from Anderson and he leads 4-1 in the 2nd.

Elsewhere, Baker takes the breaker 7-1 against Golding for the first set, and Mahut is a set and a break up against G-Lopez. Rest of the matches with serve.

I don't know why Ward doesn't try and slice it more. Whenever he does it clearly causes problems for the 6'8 Anderson, yet instead he's just putting it in court really and often makes a wild error, this set at least (first set was impeccable). If he had taken any of the three BPs at 3-1 he'd have been right back in this, but as it is Anderson is now serving brilliantly and leads 5-2.

Ward saves three set points and comes back to hold serve to make Anderson serve it out. 6-4, 3-5. Vitally Ward will get to serve first in the final set, assuming Anderson holds here (which he does, to love). Not sure how much of an advantage that will be though. 6-4, 3-6.

Anderson breaks for a 2-1 lead and is now in complete control.

4th seed Simon (who was Andy's potential SF opponent) knocked out by Bolelli in a 3rd set TB whilst the other top 8 seed (Roddick) loses to Roger-Vasselin, 5-7 in the 3rd. Opens the draw a little for Andy and the lower seeds (who are Bogomolov Jr and Nalbandian) on that quarter of the draw.

Good start for Colin & Ross who beat Darcis & Rochus 6-2 6-2 after 1st round bye. Probably the Bryans next.
Jamie & Baggy won their 1st round, just starting 2nd round v Bhupathi & Bopanna.

Just heard Andrew Castle saying Nadal is probably at home fishing this week, and Peter Fleming didn't correct him! Nadal is playing Halle this afteronon

Yes, Nadal won his match in straight sets. Grass looks a bit drier over in Halle.
