Rafael Nadal launched the Rafa Nadal Foundation on Wednesday in his hometown of Manacor, Mallorca, Spain.
Rafa's foundation is a private entity based in Manacor that will be acting globally, focusing its actions in the Spanish territory and the developing countries. The foundation goals are social assistance and development cooperation. The foundation will also have an immediate and more concrete goal which is the promotion of the sport as an integration tool for the most needed people like handicapped, immigrants or in social exclusion situation, with a special attention to the kids and youth. The foundation's president is Rafa's mother Ana Maria Parera.
"I feel extremely fortunate to be working in what I love," said Rafa at the launch. "This situation is the result of having had unique experiences traveling abroad and coming across many people in need. I think this is the first step to put in place my help."
"I will involve myself 100% just like in everything I do. When I play or when I do anything, you all know it really well, I always give everything I can and this won't be an exception. We will now receive offers to cooperate and I will chose the ones where I believe I can help the most with my image or direct participation."
Nadal went on to say, "A lot of people ask me about my future, what will I do once I stop playing. I'm still young and I hope to have many years of a professional career ahead of me but this is already a step towards that direction."
"For now the people close to me will be the ones helping me the most with the foundation and I will dedicate most of my free time to it. At the beginning we will count with the Iberostar Foundation that will help us to take the first steps. They have a lot of experience in the field and count with great professionals."
"I also want to thank everybody that came today, the press that is always following me and especially today they came from all over Spain to find out about this."
