Well Andy is 'lucky' because Nadal is defending his Roger's cup (1000 points).
With the way the points work out, even if Nadal does well and 'only' get to the SF (360 points) after two months out, this will lead to a 'loss' of 640 points.
At the top level, the margin between winning and losing can be quite small so if it takes Nadal two or three tournaments to get back to his best, by which time he could have lost well over 1200 points.

I watched the interviews from the Top 4 today and Nadal looked like he was 15 years old ...... the other 3 had their game faces on but Nadal looked so lacking in confidence ...... SO SAD ....

Well... he's human.
Doesn't mean to say he can't deliver when the chips are down. Let's wait and see. And if he doesn't deliver, then he has nothing to be ashamed of. It's honestly superhuman what he's achieved so far... IMO

All true ........ I'm wondering to what extent it might by hype ....... I think Toni Nadal is a great Spin Doctor. However, it would be amazing if Nadal could pull off a good performance this week.

I don't like to think that there's an element of mind games going on, but I suppose that's just being naive on my part.

I think Toni Nadal can be a bad cat from time to time.

Yes... I know what you mean. But it still doesn't take away from Rafa's achievements. But it may just be his undoing in the end.

I love to watch Nadal, but I'm even wondering if he is getting burned out. Some of the pix which I've seen recently almost seem to suggest that. I hope I'm reading things into things .....

Rafa is a great favourite of ours too - I just hope he gets back to his old self but he doesn't expect great things of himself this week according to what I've read. I know Andy would prefer to be No 2 through his own game play not by Nadal's decline.

I just love these bigger-than-life-super-heroes ....... I went into a decline when Agassi hung up his racquet ......... it'll be the same for Nadal for me ............

Me too!! Even Jo-Wilfred can't quite match my regard for Nadal - I've been a fan ever since I saw that smile! His tennis is out of this world too.
