I know I'm paranoid. But am I paranoid enough?

My 9-y-o son, who's slightly autistic and not into sport at all (prefers chess and puzzles) has suddenly becoming obsessed by tennis.

However, having Asperger's, his main fascination is the scoring system, which he believes is illogical. He's changed 40 to 45, because it follows more logically from 15 and 30. He then asked, "So, do you think advantage is worth about 60?"

Does anyone know where the scoring system originated from?  I've tried to research it but not come up with anything that seems remotely plausible.

From wiki

The origins of the 15, 30, 40 and so on are not known, but have medieval and French roots. One possible explanation is that the scoring system is based on the presence of a clock face at the end of the tennis court. A quarter move of the appropriate hand was made after each rest, with the score being called as 15, 30, or 45 as the case might be. As the hand was moved to 60, making the complete circuit, this was the game.

The term "deuce" is derived from the French "deux", an advantage of two points having to be gained.

"Love" is generally taken as being derived from the French "l"oeuf", the egg, symbolising nothing. The term "love" can also be said to come from the English phrase "neither for love nor for money", indicating nothing.

You know, when you think about that it's entirely logical. 45 would make a lot more sense.

Your son is obviously a very bright young man.

On the subject of the scoring, does anyone have any view on whether they should take out ad-scoring and make it a sudden death point at deuce? At a stretch I can see some sense of it in doubles, but I would hate it in singles.

My view is no, no, no. I don't even like it in doubles. It would remove some of the gladiatorial element to it, plus lots of the excitement. Listen to Andrew Castles take on it. I think it's during the really tough game in set 2 of the Olympic Final.
