No. "Brainwashing" is a very  trixy concept anyway. Am sure the KGB/CIA are past masters but for me the term implies long term, sustained, force, cruelty, deprivation and the exclusion of other points of view. Would have to take place in a closed institution of some sort,
The media is one of many influences in our lives and merely tweaks our world view.

Probably brainwashing is too strong a word, bbh, although it is used more loosely now than originally, when it probably came from KGB/CIA methods.    I do think, however, that the media has a much stronger influence than many of us realise, and does more than just tweak.    You only have to think of the way Andy was portrayed in our papers and how many people went along with it until recently.

True, but it fed into people's prejudices as well.
We all do it, look around for stuff that supports our view of things and when we find it bingo!
Andy used to do stuff on court that could, and did, put some idiots  Rolling Eyes off.
TBH I wasn't a fan of the self-mutilation.

Neither was I but I knew it was because he was annoyed with himself and not because he was an unpleasant young man.    A lot of the people who condemned Andy, and I met quite a few here in Scotland, didn't see any of that because by and large it didn't happen at Wimbledon.    They just believed someone else's assessment of him and that brings me back nicely to my view of that Fed story.     If nothing else, bbh, we are now more or less back on topic.

That's lovely. Smile

I always like to see the tennis stars giving back, and Fed definitely does his fair share of good things.  Off-court and away from postmatch press conferences he seems like a nice guy.

Yes it's a touching story, so kudos to him for giving her fantastic memories she will most likely cherish for the rest of her life Very Happy

As for Federer, it may be something to go on the plus side but he still owes in the debt column as far as i'm concerned, a grand gesture indeed but he has many more to make before he swings it towards me looking upon him favourably, not that he gives a crap what i think of him.

Hmm. I think good deeds should be kept private.
Apparently for years and years "Cold Play" donated money money to "Kidscape" and were gutted when some jouno went public with the info.

Though in this case it was the girl herself, not Federer's PR team, that publicised the full details of the story via her twitter.
