Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

Nadal got a handshake and a kiss on the cheek from the Queen of Spain. I wonder if our Queen will do something similar if Andy wins at Wimbledon.

Giggle giggle ... whatever it was, it was cute. He has always said he can't speak French and has never attempted it before (at least not that I recall). Trying to get on the good side of the French (ahem !!)

Aww... pity it wasn't a more exciting match, but you can't take anything away from Nadal, whichever way you look at it. Quite the phenomenon on clay.

It was only unexciting if you were expecting Soderling to win ...

No, Daisy. I wasn't expecting Soderling to win - I'd just have liked it to have been closer, and gone to at least four sets. I think, ultimately, it's what you would hope of a GS final.

Just remembered we have a new world number 1, who is not a boring twat.
YES.
Yes. If Nadal can get good points at Wimbledon then he can stay at number 1 for a long time and stop Federer from ever regaining #1 as Federer is slowly declining now. Federer will kick himself for never beating Sampras record of 286 weeks at #1 now that he is a mere 1 week behind Sampras in the record book.
As we saw against the Soderling match, Federer is having trouble maintaining the excellent intensity of the first set and dropped away in performance in sets 2 to 4.

I'm glad it didn't go to four sets .... my nerves could not have stood it ....

That must be heartbreaking for Federer. He's surely continuing playing for the sake of breaking records ... as well as due to the fact that his wife apparently tells him he has to ...

At this FO, Federer lost 1640 points whilst Nadal gained 1820 points, a massive swing of 3460 points (sound almost like the recent polling results).
If something similar happens at Wimbledon (where Nadal is not defending any point whilst Federer is defending 2000 points) then Nadal's lead over Federer will be huge post Wimbledon.

On clay yes, Andy doesn't hold a candle. Don't think there is too much between them on a hardcourt, as for a grass court, haven't played on one since 2008, hopefully might see that next week.
Agree with every word.

He clearly went for the anything Federer can do I can do better approach. And whatever he said, it can't have been too complicated since Mark Petchey was able to translate it!!

So lovely to see him win again and so gracious in his on court speech. Lovely that Queen Sophia was there watching
