Not saddened by this at all, unfortunately.

Courage isn't absence of fear but mastery of it.

Ironic that it was a disputed foot-fault that caused the obscene outburst last year. Now Serena, it seems, definitely has a foot fault. I always felt the Grand Slam Committee let her off far too lightly. Nature works in mysterious ways ...
Sorry, but I always find her apologies utterly nauseating and insincere.

Federer has become really agressive again. He will be dangerous for the USO. This is not looking good. Federer realises that his body is slowly breaking down so he is no longer willing to trade shots from the baseline and is working on his strength, big FH + coming in to volley at the net.
Hopefully, Andy will add a similar agressive element in his game for the USO to match Federer like he did at Toronto.

The five-time ATP World Tour No. 1 said that he used downtime since Wimbledon to retool his game, adding more aggressive elements to his already formidable arsenal.
“The past year I’ve been very disappointed with my returning," Federer said. "I’ve played very safe the whole time and even on the first serve I haven’t been able to read the players as much, which had been my big strength. That got me thinking… After Wimbledon I had six weeks to work on a few things. On the hard courts it’s nice to play forwards and not always be defensive and let the other guy dictate. I’m happy that the hard work is paying off right away.”
"I was hitting the ball well but he made me feel like I had no solutions," Baghdatis said. "He played really smart. He played a lot differently tonight than Indian Wells, where he was playing backhand to backhand. Tonight he came to the net more and I wasn't expecting that. He played really aggressive and it wasn't my day today and I couldn't push him to make mistakes."

Federer added: "I have no lingering injuries, no problems whatsoever. I'm feeling healthy and fit, which was not the case during the grass-court season. That's a relief and I've been happy to start the American hard-court season so strongly."
Interesting comment from Fed which makes him dangerous. If Fed loses this time, he won't be able to use the excuse about injury/lack of fitness.

Back injuries have a habit of recurring, and I'd always understood that that had been an ongoing problem for him, so he could be tempting fate if faced with long matches, and also trot it out as an excuse if he loses. However, that steely intent is there. He's definitely up for it mentally, and that's the most important factor. Incidentally, Brad Gilbert tips him to win.

Anna Wintour Gives Roger Federer Outfit Advice
Quote
Roger Federer can't take any credit for looking so suave lately: He admitted at last night’s Nike Primetime Knockout benefit that he often consults with Anna Wintour about his ensembles both on and off the tennis court. “I kind of ask her sometimes what she thinks,” he said. “I get a very strong second opinion.” Does he ever go against her advice? “I asked her about the pink color I was wearing last week and she was like, 'Oh, you sure about that Roger?' Too late now! But I got good reviews." In any case, he explained, "It's nice to be able to dress nice on the tennis court. We try hard.”Federer may be open to color suggestions, but he draws the line when it comes to skin, explaining that he has a hairy stomach. “You don’t want to see that,” he protested when Serena Williams demanded a courtside ab-off between Federer and Rafael Nadal (Nadal also declined, smiling modestly).
