Read this article a wee while back but didn't know how to post it.
Astonished that the major company's only need to give monies to the top 4 players in the world but the rest according to this article have the pleasure of wearing their clothing but yet don't get paid for it.....cant be totally true .

You're part of a team and you predict the results of Masters1000 and slams. You get points for correct picks. It's gr8 fun and keeps your interest even if your favourite player loses early.
Ref: ATP bracket challenge. MC is there and you have to make your picks by Sunday a.m.

Found this interview quite interesting and very touching at the same time.

Thanks EJ - very interesting. But "the grass in Wimbledon grows the wrong way in order to slow the game down"? I'm no horticulturist, but this seems to be stretching things a bit - every source I've looked at says grass grows only one way, and that is straight UP!
If this article really is the unvarnished truth, then I do feel sorry for the lower ranked players. They get such a raw deal that I can only think the reason the majority of them carry on playing is because they love the sport. Meanwhile, although he can afford it, I hate to think what it must cost Andy to pay for his little retinue by way of salaries, travelling and living expenses - coach (and I bet Lendl doesn't come cheap!), two fitness trainers, a physio, and his hitting partner, Dani.

^ Yeah Aileen... that 'grass' bit jumped out at me too.
And Dani surely has one of the best darned jobs in the world.

If you are knocked out in the first or second round you are not making much. I think the ATP should be taking better care of the lower ranked players. There is talk of players boycotting the French Open if they do not get more money.
It was announced a couple of days ago that prize money is being increased for the early rounds at RG.
"The French Open will boast total prize money of 18.718 million euros this year, an increase of seven percent, with more cash targetted at early round losers.
The second Grand Slam event of the season is boosting prize money for losers in the second qualifying round up to the fourth round main draw by between 10 and 20 percent, organisers said.
This move comes after a series of complaints from the lower-ranked players who protested that early-round losers were being being short-changed by the paymasters of the four Grand Slam tournaments".
http://www.supersport.com/tennis/roland-garros/news/120412/French_Open_boosts_prize_money
And from another article:
Proportionately, the biggest increases are for those who get knocked out early. First-round losers get a 20 percent boost, from $19,700 to $23,670.
http://espn.go.com/tennis/story/_/id/7811282/french-open-prize-money-7-percent-overall
Winners also getting an increase.

If players like Stakhovsky who's been in the top 100 for the last few years now are struggling, I can't really understand how players ranked 150-500 (etc) in the world struggle. I wonder where line is where players only play part-time, or have other jobs.

I'm taking what Stakhovsky says with a little pinch of salt. If what he says is entirely true, then it's a miracle we have any players left ranked below 100, unless they either have independent financial means or get huge sums from sponsors, which I doubt.
Anyway I'm fed up hearing about Nadal's knees. Truth or mind-games?
Nadal worried about knee heading into clay season

I may look foolish later, but willing to risk it..... I actually believe the wolf is not crying this time.
Rafa is an outstanding tennis player and athlete, and I like the guy (except when he's playing Andy.) If his body is saying "no", then maybe it's time for him to listen to it. There's a whole other life out there for him, and his name is already deeply carved in the Stone Of Tennis.

^ Did you spot all the errors, BTW? Like missing out the 4th round? Playing the semi on an outside court? The courts also had brown patches on the baseline on Day 1. Oh, and the players played like mechanised gnomes.

I watched about 30 mins of it. That was long enough. Totally ham!
