I just heard that tennis is not to be included in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.  Seemingly, when they bid for the Games, Scotland did not ask for tennis to be included.  What a shame - not only do we have Andy and Jamie but Colin and his partner, Jocelyn Rae, won the gold medal in the mixed in 2010!

Oh nooooo!  Mind you when Glasgow made their bid it was probably before Scotland had any tennis players worth talking about. Whistle

Surely you can't pick and choose which sports you cater for? Don't you bid for the whole deal?   confused

There are certain sports that have to be included and there's a list of sports that are optional and the hosts pick certain amount to include.

I don't know this either, but -

"The Commonwealth Games sports comprise all the sports officially recognised and approved by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). There are a total of 31 approved sports, two multi-disciplinary sports, and a further 7 para-sports. Not all sports are competed at each edition of the Games as programmes must be limited to a maximum of 17 sports and a maximum 15 para-sports events.

Mind you, having just looked at the list of sports chosen by Glasgow at the foot of that webpage, I don't quite understand why tennis wasn't included.  They have badminton and squash, so Shrug

Gilles Simon and coach part ways

French number three Gilles Simon has parted company with coach Thierry Tulasne in a mutual agreed decision.

The French tennis federation (FFT) announced on Thursday that Simon would play without a coach, having worked with Tulasne since February 2007.
 
They announced on the FFT website: "Gilles Simon and Thierry Tulasne, his coach, have decided by common accord to put an end to their collaboration.
 
"The Nice man ... wishes to fly with his own wings."
 
Simon, 27, reached sixth in the world in January 2009 and won 10 ATP tour titles with Tulasne as his coach.
 
The FFT said they were ready to help Simon "put in place his new sporting project".

Interesting cos Tsonga also is coach less at the mo.
Simon is a perfect example Grabcopy's concept of a  player who is "almost but not quite."

Seemingly there are 10 sports that are set in stone and then the host nation is allowed to chose another 7 from a list.   India included tennis at the last Games but , for whatever reason, Scotland chose not to!
