Really disappointed
I don't think I buy the stomach virus reason though - he could have entered Sydney, Auckland or Kooyong before the AO and got the match practice he needs. He's right to be cautious about his comeback though, even though his ranking is going to take a hit - he'll be number 5 after the AO now, and could even be number 6 if Berdych reaches the SF.

I know I'm paranoid. But am I paranoid enough?

This doesn't ring true. He's pulled out of the Aussie Open with
a stomach virus
? The AO is over 2 weeks away.

I think Nadal knows himself that he is not fit enough to play all out tennis. I truly think he is far from ready to play all out tennis on hard courts. He may only return to play on clay courts and grass. If that is the case will he continue to play tennis, does he think he will only be able to play on those surfaces. Will he continue in tennis he already has a lot of damage to his knee or knees. He has a lot to think about he has plenty of money he may think is it worth it to continue and do permanent damage to his knees ? Who knows but I think his future may come to an end sooner than we think.

Rafa is now officially out of AO.
Sad. But hope this increases chance of an Andy/Nole final if they can be in opposite sides of the draw which might not otherwise have been possible.

Caroline Wozniaki arrived in Brisbane on Saturday, reportedly sporting an engagement ring. Rory is there too.

Del Potro wants to be number one and wants to win more GS's, so no Davis Cup this year for him.

Tomic's won the first set against Nole in the Hopman Cup. I know Nole will probably go on to win in 3 but it's great to see Tomic playing so well to start the year. He had a good win over Haas earlier in the week too.
Edit: Tomic won.

18yo Luke Saville (beat Liam Broady in 2011 Junior Wimbledon and then won Junior Aus last year) has been handed a WC into the AO main draw. He is the highest ranked 18yo on tour.
He joins John Millman, Ben Mitchell (winner of Aussie play-off), Di Wu (winner of Asian-Pacific play-off), Ouanna (French WC) and Rhyne Williams (winner of USTA play-off). Two WCs are still to be decided, with Duckworth expected to get one.

Don't mean to read too much into this loss but it seems to me, Nole wants to stay fit for the AO. Nole is definitely better than this loss to Tomic.
On the other hand, won't be too surprise if Tomic returns to the tour with full force. He had enough time to figure it out just last year and had enough fun as well, so time to get serious.
