I've thanked him for his great coverage and asked him on Twitter how to apply for his job. Possibly a bit cheeky, but I can't see it advertised anywhere.

It is now! Good luck anybody...

Hmm, let's consider this. A job talking and writing about tennis. Working for the BBC, the most respected broadcaster in the world. 30 miles from my house. Paying probably north of £150k.

Let me think about that for a nanosecond.

I think they want a qualified, experienced broadcast journalist. But that won't stop me applying.

I think you should go for it Grabcopy. It needs someone who is passionate about the game, but also concise enough to explain things to non-experts like me. Take your explanation of why the clay is so tough for example, it was so clear, even I understood it, and I admit I don't understand all the things the current crop of pundits say. You go for it, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

good and you've plenty of people on MW who would give you a reference!  Some samples of your match reports would demonstrate your ability to write and assess a match.  But I guess an obstacle might be that they will feel obliged to give it to someone 'objective' ie not an out and out Murray fan.  Will be interesting to see whether you get any response.

Well, Overend's work was largely Murray-based. I think the biggest obstacle will be lack of broadcast experience (plus some urgent swotting-up on the WTA). I'm not even a qualified journalist, never mind a broadcast journalist, although, as a copywriter, there's sometimes a big grey area.

TBH, I'd be happy just to get an interview and go through the selection process. It'd be really interesting.
