Any ideas what may have happened here? Cannot think why Fed would blank Tsonga like that, want to give Jo a big bear hug! Wow that was strong. I could feel the vibes there, Jo W. looked really uncomfortable. Poor lad. XX

Didn't he just! Fed is usually everyone's friend during PR stuff so it really does make you wonder what's behind it.

Soderling is supposed to have bullied Wawrinka and Andy when they first got on the tour.

What was that about? Fed made a point of shaking hands with Andy in front of JWT and Rafa behind JWT. That is so in-yer-face cold shouldering. I thought French players just like French fans like Fed. Fed and JWT split their last 4 meetings before the WTF. JWT won Wimby and Canada. Fed won USO and Paris. Could be the Wimby loss? JWT said something in the presser?

It grates on me every time I hear a commentator say, for the millionth time, what a marvellous ambassador for the sport he is. Don't they see what we see or are they choosing to ignore it?

As much as I despise Federer for his arrogance and his threat to Rafa over the last 7 years, I would agree that he's the top ambassador for tennis outside the sport itself. He probably brings in the most money because he's an established brand.

I don't doubt that. He certainly brings in the punters to most tournaments. However, I was thinking more of an ambassador being a role model to the kids etc etc. He USED to be squeaky clean, but over the last few years the gloss has started to rub off big time.

This thread gave me an idea.
Does anyone think that a book about some of the great rivals' off-court relationships would appeal?
I'm thinking: Borg/McEnroe, Agassi/Sampras, Fed/Nadal, etc.

Anyone dishing the dirt on off-court rivalries has my undivided attention.

My favourite-ever interaction between players happened with Borg and McEnroe. They were playing each other and Mac was doing his nut, mouthing off at officials and frothing at the mouth.
Borg, ever ice cool, walked up to the net and summoned him over. When he got there, Borg put his arm around Mac's shoulder and said soothingly, 'John. John. Relax. It's only a game of tennis'.
McEnroe, who idolised Borg as a sort of god, played the rest of the match in total silence.
