Tsonga wins Doha
« on: January 07, 2012, 11:59 PM »
Caught most of the final have been really impressed by him this week, he was great at the end of last year too but he seems to have made an effort to be even more attacking and he was coming into the net quite a bit today.
He has lovely hands around the net and he made some delightful drop volleys was nice to watch.
He is I believe the only guy to have beaten all of the top 4 guys in a major, I don't see him going all the way in Melbourne but if any of the top guys are not on there game he is capable of pulling off an upset.
Congrats to Tsonga and his fans!
Also a weird omen! Monfils who Tsonga beat in the final, only ever beat Rafa once before that was also in Doha in straight sets in 2009, Rafa went on to win his only Aussie Open title that year, I am not one to look at those kind of things but thought that was a weird little sub plot!

Sometimes I think that is the biggest problem for Monfils he tries to much to be an entertainer rather than actually worrying about the score he is one of the guys that I do not feel will ever do justice to his talents.
Tsonga on the other hand is doing enough to put his name into contention for pretty much every major bar the French Open I would say.

I see Fedex crashed the presentations
Crappy conditions over there in Doha for the final.

There was no crashing any anyone! It was the celerbration of twenty years of this tournament and as a former champion Roger along with other former champions were invited to the celerbrations, Murray (2009 winner) would have been there too had he not been playing in Brisbane and he would not have been "crashing".

I know I'm paranoid. But am I paranoid enough?

Some great quotes from Bodo:
'Monfils, while seemingly an idiot, still has time to accept that the idea in tennis is winning, not just looking hip.'

Increasingly, I've noticed a lot of talk on various forums about a new Big Three: Novak, Andy and Tsonga. It's not so far-fetched. Federer's fading and Rafa's body's packing up. Those three must be next in line.

Tsonga belongs in that club even less than Del Potro.

I agree. I'm more inclined to believe in a Big Two, with Delpo an outsider. I really feel we're seeing the end of Fedal.
Reading Rafa's autobiog, it's amazing he's still playing. He has a serious foot problem that prompted specialists to tell him to pack the game in when he was 19.

Would be so good if it's Andy, Novak, Delpot and Tsonga.
Fedup with Fedal

This ^ is the prize money for Doha - women's higher than mens?
