I know I'm paranoid. But am I paranoid enough?

Not quite sure what the Poll Tax is doing on this thread, but I'm glad somebody agrees with me that it was a very fair tax, unlike its successor which most certainly is not.

The poll tax crept in because someone said another reason for not liking Andrew Castle was because in some match he played long ago he had an anti-poll tax placard up on his chair. I can't stand him but that would have been one action which would have made me like him abit more! But not going to go into the arguments around the poll tax now and lead us further off topic!

Thanks Chris. Unfortunately threads do have a habit of going off-topic, especially when there isn't any tennis around - and this one drifted into matters sexual and political! If you wish, you can 'Report to Moderator' and draw Mark's attention to where there are a lot of off-topic posts on a thread, and he can then remove them, at his discretion. However, at this time of year everything's so woolly ...

Watching the first Rafa v Fed charity match reminded me how much I dislike David Mercer. He grovels in front of Federer and has this awful breathless tone. And I recall him being pretty negative about Andy on a number of occasions.

Do people have a preference whether there are one or two commentators?
I prefer it when there are two because it allows for banter.

I'm not fussed, but if there are two, a lot depends on who the two are. Some are so busy indulging in inane banter that it becomes seriously irritating and the mute button gets pressed!

Thought I'd revive this thread to ask whether others who watch Sky agree that Miles Maclagan is a great addition to their team. I find his commentaries really informative unlike those of some of them.

I agree with you Ruthie - I think Miles is a really good commentator/analyst. He doesn't talk too much like some, and offers interesting information. The other day he was talking about how well Almagro slides into his shots (hits and slides at the same time) compared to other players who tend to slide first and then hit their shot and could lose their balance in the process - I thought that was interesting. I think having coached players who are still currently playing helps with his analysis too.

Yes I like the fact he isn't too chatty also Katie. Sometimes the comms seem to lose interest completely in the match and start chatting about something else eg wimbledon prize money during play. And some comms just keep telling us the bleeding obvious that people who nothing at all about tennis could work out for themselves.

Koenig is a great pundit, check his analysis of Haas Miami run on ATPWorldTour youtube, absolutely brilliant stuff.
Goodall is good as well and I like how they take it in turns during commentary as the colour commentator and the play by play.

I like Boris BEcker - wasn't a big fan when he was on tour but he tends to talk a lot of sense (imo) and is good at seeing things from the players perspective. Doesn't chat too much during a match and generally gets a good blend of commentary, analysis and wee stories. Quite like when he teams up with McEnroe.
