Hazel is right. If you really want to go and enjoy the tennis then go. Take the opportunity to talk to the other people and maybe you can make a few new friends. I would suggest though bringing a good book for the queueing just in case things don't work out as planned. Wimbledon is only here for two weeks. Make the best of it whilst you can. Go and enjoy the experience Ally -
Advantage of Going : watch the tennis you love, maybe you will find some new friends to share the experience
Disadvantage : maybe a long wait by yourself whilst you are reading a book queueing
Advantage of Not Going : save queueing time and money
Disadvantage : You will forever kick yourself for missing the opportunity to watch your favourite tennis players play

Also depends a lot whether there are any matches you are deeply interested in, if the players you are interested in are on TV courts it's usually a better experience at home if you expect a quick match and thus a relatively flat atmosphere.

Next year join an LTA affiliated tennis club (ie. almost any club) and get some tickets that way.
Last year I got centre court mens semis tickets, this year I have tickets for centre court on Tuesday and centre court for the womens final.
No queueing for me

Depending on the club it does pretty much guarantee you tickets...
