Women do work as hard as men- no question about that.
But remeber men have longer games to play- out of 5. Women only have out of 3.
People think men deserve to get paid more because playing up to 5 sets is harder than playing up to 3.

About as warm as you can get without saying the word "demand".  Simply put, there's more demand for men's football than there is women's football, so the men get more.  Translate that to tennis and there's more demand for men's tennis than women's tennis.  However, there's not that much of a gap between the two in comparison to football, so the difference is much less.

Perhaps if women played five setters demand for women's tennis would go up.  Truth is though that it's not definite what level of demand women's tennis would reach if it did resort to five set matches.  Who knows, demand might even drop.

As for the guys thinking that length of time played and size of fields matter, if we go by that then surely cricket would be one of the highest paying sports ever.

yea i see your point... i guess maybe it all evens out when you look at it from ratios. guys are stronger and other stuff so they can play longer. women have to play against the same ratios of power and such as the men...

Very true but the don't play as long! The point about demand is very relevant and is the reason behind the whole issue in the likes of football for example but in tennis the justification is simple, they don't play for as long! I mean, you wouldn't expect to go to work at 9 and work till five doing exactly the same job as some other dude who came in at 11 and worked till 4 and get paid the same would you? Now if you're arguing the whole ratio's thing about the difficulty/effort/achievement thing being the same then the women are doing the same job as the men but for less time! They wouldn't expect the same in any other industry so why should they in Tennis?
Ok I know that it's not alway the case that the womens matches are shorter than the mens, an example of such being that Fed beat Roddick in 1hr 41 last year and it took 2hrs 45 for Venus to win the womans final, but this is unusual and I'm sure if you look at total on court time for Williams vs Fed, Fed will have played longer. It just makes sense, the organisers get more value for money for the mens games in terms of demand and court time, so why shouldn't they pay them more?

I think they should get paid equal, after all they work as hard as the men do... the amount of hours training, physical and mental effort.

I don't think the argument about 3 and 5 sets really stands up....... what if the ladies champion wins every round in 3 sets, and the mens champ wins every round in 3 sets also? Then they would have both played the same number of sets. Would it be fair then to pay them differently, who knows what can happen in a tournament?

All the other GS are paying equal so I believe it makes Wimbledon look a little old fashioned.
