Wimbledon draw kind to Murray

By for MurraysWorld.com on
The draw for the 2013 Wimbledon men's singles has been relatively kind to Andy Murray. He kicks off his campaign against Germany's Benjamin Becker and could meet fellow Brit James Ward in round two.

On paper, the Scot should have a reasonably straightforward run through to the quarter-finals, where he'll likely face his semi-final opponent from last year, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. From there, Murray is expected to do battle with the winner of the Federer-Nadal quarter-final in the last four, while world number one Novak Djokovic is seeded to meet him in the final.

For Kyle Edmund, the young Brit who impressed at Eastbourne this week, there's a tough encounter against beanpole Jerzy Janowicz. In the ladies', Laura Robson will play Maria Kirilenko, and Heather Watson has drawn Madison Keys.

Murray's probable route to glory:

Round one: Becker
Round two: Ward/Lu
Round three: Robredo/Mahut
Round four: Tipsarevic
Quarter-final: Tsonga
Semi-final: Federer/Nadal
Final: Djokovic

A fair draw.  I would like to see Murray beat his nemesis nadal in the semi's, that could be a big moment, as the spaniard has easily beat him at wimbledon the previous times they have met there.  There is no doubt in my mind that Nadal will beat Federer on grass and for me he is way underrated by the bookies for the title. I think a kind draw would have been the one Nole got.  This will be tough but he has four easy matches to ease himself into things.  He is on a good winning run on grass so everything is positive and I think after last year, the olympics, and the US open everyone should be behind them.  There are some who will never come round to Andy no matter what he does.  Don't be surprised to see Fed go out early.  He hasn't had a decent victory all year and the way he was demolished by Tsonga at RG must have even his most diehard fans worried.

Murray just needs to stay fresh and win his matches quickly.  By the time Nadal comes around he should be at this most confident ever point on grass and ready to finally beat the spaniard.  However, Nole's comparatively easy route through to the final could be a major factor, albeit I am certain that a fit Murray will beat him here.  That slightly lower bounces slightly takes the edge off the serb's prowess and amazing flexibility in the corners.  His defensive game is not as strong on grass as it is on hard.  Overall, really looking forward to my favourite two weeks of the year!....

I can see Youzhny coming through Tipsarevic's section given his grass record, and Tsonga has Cilic in the 4th round as well, which won't be straight-forward.

James Ward won't even want to beat Andy in the 2nd round, he would be hated for it.

Fantastic draw. The Gods have set the stage for what I believe will be Murray's second and greatest Slam victory.

You have got to feel worst for everybody in Nadal/Feds quarter though, they are all screwed might has well hang up their racket before they begin. Fognini, Janowicz, Almagro, Wawrinka, Isner all screwed, to win the tournament they might well have to beat every one of the big 4.
