Serious serious problems again! ARGH!! Life is just being incredibly annoying just now lol

Right, Firstly, the good stuff. Exam went ok, I got offered a job by a well known high street pharmacy/photo/cosmetics chain, starting on Tuesday and best of all..... Newport won the first tennis match we've played this season tonight!  cmon yeah Not a bad day at all..... however.......

I had 3 missed calls from a withheld number when I came out of my exam. I thought these were from the high street pharmacy/photo/cosmetics chain when I got a call later to tell me about the job. Having just this minute checked my e-mails, I have discovered, these 3 calls were ACTUALLY from another job I had applied for asking for an interview in Edinburgh. Basically, I now have a dilemma of what to do next......

Pros of Dundee job - It's near home, it gives me more free time (only 25 hours), I start very soon, can play tennis
Cons of Dundee job - I will be staying at home lol , lower pay approx £500 a month, no friends/gf nearby

Pros of Edinburgh job - More money, more hours (48) so less likely to spend it on gf/going out in theory, GF lives in Edinburgh along with my best mates, so no travel
Cons - would need accom. most likely my best mates flat, could be £2-300 a month out of approx £1200, still leaves say £900..... MAY spend more on day off..... No tennis as wouldn't be coming back to play for club, don't have job yet but e-mail is highly positive meaning they like my application.

I have to call the guy tomorrow morning. What I am tempted to do is say "Do I have a genuinely good shot at getting this job? Can I get an interview on Monday and How long would it be til I found out?" Just to be open and upfront with them and not mess around the Dundee job.....

Any other suggestions?

EDIT: of course, since I'm leaving at 12pm tomorrow afternoon for the whole weekend, I won't get many replies lmao

48 hours a week is alot too Think  I was doing that for months in my old job and all I seemed to do was work and sleep.  I managed to still go out on weekends though but that was because I got ready while I was at work.  God I don't miss those times lol

Yeah, count the heads.

Re: Agony Uncle « Reply #1191 on: May 16, 2008, 09:17:09 AM »

Is this just a summer job? Otherwise, another thing to bear in mind is how each would look on the CV.

You won't lose anything at this stage keeping the Edinburgh option open. So tell the guy you have another offer on the table, and press for an early interview. At the interview you'll get a much better idea of whether you like the idea of the Edinburgh job itself, since that should be a huge factor in your decision.
On paper, the Edinburgh job looks better to me because it's where your mates and g/f are, so it may be the right decision to increase your life-enjoyment-factor over this period. Remember, you only work in order to pay for your social life Smile. [And there are tennis courts in Edinburgh.] But that's a personal opinion.

Basically, though, I'd say find out more about the Edinburgh job and then go with your gut feeling, 'cos it's probably right (and your subconscious will take into account many more factors than your conscious mind).

That's exactly what i am doing as i speak.

WOOHOO. Interviewing everyone on Wednesday except for myself who gets in on Monday!  cmon yeah  I really want the Edinburgh job. Sucks about leaving the tennis team if I get it, but I can always play tennis in Edinburgh.

Nice one, hopefully. thumb up

Will they be able to give you an answer on Monday, or will you have to start the Dundee job on Tuesday and perhaps leave them on Wednesday? lol

Anyway, best of luck.

Yeah, it's just the induction on Tuesday, so I may not actually start til the following Monday  pray That way I won't feel so bad leaving. Earliest I can find out is Wednesday afternoon once they finish interviews. There can't be that many people to see if they are only interviewing on one morning.

How is it fair that at the time I got my student loan the interest rate was like 1% and now I'm paying 4.8% on it... it should stay at 1% for me because that is what I got it for at the time. ranting

What's a student loan?

I feel really guilty now, I think I'll donate something towards Marks loan.

Yes, slowly but surely £15,000 is being paid off from my salary but it's going to take a while and I don't like the interest they are taking, not fair! It sucks that I left home straight away when getting my job as financially I would have been so much better if I stayed a few months but it was out of my control, that's life.

Got Paypal? lol

Am i right to be annoyed with my girlfriend? Basically, it was her college formal the other night, and they weren't allowed guests so i couldnt go. Obviously, she had a nice time etc. Then she changed her facebook picture to a pic of her with this pri*k i cant stand. And they're hugging, then exchange comments about how they "love the picture and its the first of many".
