Any suggestions? (In fact, I have several replacement addictions, but unfortunately it's a slow week everywhere: news, tennis, tech scene... )

Well my replacement addiction has been box sets. But they do have a shelf life.

He's brilliantly idiotic at times.

Roddick and Blake (scheduling), Berdych (ankle), Gonzalez (also scheduling), Canas, Tsonga (knee), Baghdatis (fatigue) and Hewitt are all out.

Andy will be seeded 14th at least. Smile

That's that catch 22 of the rankings system.....he's gonna get a few stinky draws until he gets back in the top ten. He'll have to haul himself back up the hard way...grinding out some ugly wins against some top claycourters. Hope Alex C has worked his magic! nervous

Why can't he beat Lopez? He's a S&Ver, and his record on clay is 46-54.

If Andy's fit and ready, he should win.

Andy's is like 4-9 on clay? Experience wise that's like Rafa having to play King Hunter Wink

Andy's a better player, on clay it should be emphasised even more.

He cant beat Ancic when having match points, he cant beat Haas when he should have.  Basically, his last 5 matches have been shocking.  On clay it will be harder because he hasnt been hitting with power on hard courts, thus why he has struggled to dictate play and dominate points.  On clay it will be even harder as these courts are slower.  I really hope I'm wrong and that he comes out playing like he did in Hamburg last year - He's due a sh*t hot game sooner rather than later.  This could be the tournament where he gets his season back on track because of the potential players he could face if he wins his matches.

It's too easy to be too negative.
For example I disagree that the Karlovic match could be described as 'shocking'. Apart from being marred by early breaks in the first two sets,  Andy's serve-volleying and net game was superb, especially in the second set ( the point at 4-2 in the 3rd set was a classic); and he played some fabulous shots, especially his forehands near the end of the match.
Maybe with the changes he's trying to make to his serve; and his attempts to alter his game style to being more aggressive, there'll be some unsettled results anyhow, as to change his game consistently will take time. We'll see.

I keep forgetting about the Ivo match.  Although he did play well, his serve and volleying looked amazing because of who his opponent was.  Thats why he rarely uses it against anyone else.  I'm not taking anything away from how he did it, but his next match against haas, I dont think he went to S&V once.  I mean, commentators picked up on it in the ivo match and said he is one of the top 5 best volleyers, but S&V is so much easier when you play against someone who doesnt really have a return game

I have to admit, my first reaction when reading 'Lopez' was 'ouch'... anything but Spanish/Latin American for the first clay match of the year would have been nice.

Who's opening the thread for the match? I'm going to be online for this (hurray for matches in Europe, at a 'normal' time).
