Andy's Progress: US Open « on: July 17, 2008, 07:29:31 PM »

It's not far away now! Takes place in the week beginning 25th August! The year's final grand slam at Flushing Meadows is sure to be a cracker, and indeed, our Andy's best shot at a title as it's his favourite surface and one in which many have tipped him to shine. He defends only a lowly 3rd round appearance here last year, so it's a fantastic opportunity to reach his second grand slam quarter final and pick up some points! Seeding takes place on the 18th of August.

Very possible if he gets a kind quarters draw, i.e. Davydenko or Ferrer (whoever ends up being 4th seed), or even Nadal, unless he's improved his game on hard, which we'll find out in the next few weeks.

I cannot see Roddick winning another Grand slam in spite of missing the Olympic Games.

True, but then again, you can't really look past the top 3 at all these days.

Quarters, unless he is in Fed or Davy's quarter, then semis.

I don't think he'll beat Fed.

No neither do I. I think he could beat Nadal or Davy, but not Djoko or Fed. But then again, Djoko hasn't been brilliant lately.......

Well, this last stretch of the year is probably Fed's best surface, and Djoko's...

I think Andy has more chance of beating Fed than Rafa - he couldn't even beat Rafa indoors at Madrid at a high altitude.

Can't see him beating Rafa on any surface this year, while Fed has looked beatable in just about every match against the top players, and I'd pick Andy to beat him.

You could be right, but only because a) Andy's game matches up better vs Fed then against Nadal and b) Nadal is less likely to play below par then Fed, who's had a very inconsistent year. However, remember that at their meeting at Madrid last year, Andy had recently come back from injury, and did not play at his best.

At Madrid he didn't play at his best?  They were both playing great and Andy had just given one of his best performances in the whole year in the last round against Chela.
