I think it's very fair to give the England team more coverage than the Scottish team.
Yeah, ok Fuzzy. I won't take the bait on that one.

Anyway, I'm not in england at the moment, but i still read a huge amount of English media coverage of the Euros, and I've seriously read a lot about Scotland - almost everytime the group of death gets mentioned, they speak about Scotland.
They mention it in English newspapers? Funny that, given that Scotland have their own version of the most popular papers. That is where Scotland is mentioned. I am referring to broadcasts, like those on BBC and ITV.

That is such rubbish. The media are responsible to give coverage as per the population it serves. Thats obvious. So of course England deserves more coverage. So what if Scotland is a country. It doesn't change the job of the media.

So Scotland Wales should be ignored because they have a smaller population? Coverage is supposed to be balanced. Even if what you say is true (complete boll**ks, like most of what you spout), Scotland and Wales do not get mentioned on these broadcasts. In fact, only once Scotland was mentioned. A Romanian player played for a Scottish team and they mentioned him in passing. I have watched every game and that is the only mention. Is that balanced?

We're talking about NATIONAL broadcasts, not Scottish or English broadcasts. The Euro 2008 coverage is national, as opposed to region specific.

I agree they deserve coverage, but not on a par with England. And from what I find, they do.

You are not in England and do not see the broadcasts. You are in no position to say that. I already said that we're not talking about newspapers, since those are generally region specific. For example, The Scottish edition of The Sun. Each country generally has specific media coverage. I am referring to national broadcasts.
And no, England do not deserve more coverage. You cannot have it both ways. Either this is the United Kingdom (a single nation) or we are separate countries. National broadcasts cater to the United Kingdom as a single nation i.e. the constituent countries get equal coverage since we are supposedly one nation.

It's really simple, the areas that have bigger populations should get more coverage - that's just common sense.

Shouldn't it be where "the story" is?

Not always, the story might be interesting but if it only affects a small population then it's best to give that coverage to events which affect the bigger population.

Yes, we are one nation, and we deserve coverage inasmuch as the population is interested in its coverage. If a country in the UK would have a population of 1000 do you think they'd deserve equal coverage. News media has nothing to do with politics of country or anything, it has only got to do with what people are interested in hearing. Thats why bigger football clubs get more coverage, and thats why England get more coverage.
Concerning the coverage i get, i see the versions newspapers and broadcast media put on their website, which has only one version. And when Croatia and Russia come in they mention England, and when Italy and France get mentioned, they speak about Scotland. Hell, even when they speak about Holland they mention Scotland often because of the last Euros.

No, that's why you have local broadcasts. A NATIONAL broadcast is for the United Kingdom, supposedly a single nation.

It simply doesn't work like that. Your obsession with logic is making you miss the common sense behind our argument.
