I think that might be a bit simplistic.
Isolating a country is the surest way to ensure it ignores the opinions of the rest of the world. Especially one which we need more than it needs us.

And the Olympic Games has been held in a lot of countries with just as bad human rights records (including the segregated US in the early half of last century, Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union and so on).

Also if you let athletes from countries compete, why wouldn't you let them host (wouldn't that be double-standards).
And if you don't let them compete, isn't that penalising individual competitors because of the policies of their government?

No topic for this so thought I would start one. Awesome story to start with!

Tom Daley to become youngest EVER male Olympian

Tom Daley will become Britain's youngest ever male Olympian after qualifying in the 10m dive competition at the Fina diving World Cup.

Thirteen-year-old Tom Daley is the new European champion after winning the 10m platform title in Eindhoven in Holland.

Can we keep the politics out of the sports pages please  Rolling Eyes

Doing reasonably well the the Europeans at the moment! New record for the British medley girls! Awesome. Fingers crossed they can get amongst the medals when they have the Aussies and Americans to take on.

I'm really looking forward to these Olympics, hoping for a decent haul of medals for the UK!

EDIT: MW threw a spaz, can a mod please attach this to the Beijing Thread.

cmon yeah
The velodrome tends to be our most successful venue in terms of medals at the Olympics. Looking good for Beijing at the moment.

Awesome results from the World Swimming Shortcourse Championships so far, with GB 3rd in the Medal table. The most medals so far! Hopefully they can reproduce the form in the 50m pool at the Olympics! It's shaping up to be a good one this year! Imagine how good GB will be in London 2012 with all the extra funds coming in!! Very Happy

Why is this a sticky? I think it should be dropped into the perils of page 2 until the Olypmics start...

Because it's to update on Olympic qualifiers and so on and so forth. And so no one creates a new topic when the Olympics start! lol

Not to mention people creating topics for every olympic sport just because they saw it on the tele this week.
