No topic for this so thought I would start one. Awesome story to start with!

wow...what a talented boy.

Anyway...

The OLYMPICS! So excited! I love the olympics. Summer games the best! Torino was fun, Athens was amazing, Salt Lake was good, SYDNEY was the best!! Very Happy

Cant wait for these! Hopefully the noughties go out with a bang!

I'm not supporting these olympics, it's disgusting what the government are doing.
Did you know that the Government have built a road up to one of the areas near everest throwing the monks out of their temples, and ruining the environment?
A country that continually violates human rights shouldn't be allowed to host the olympics.


So yeah, Go team GB!

I think this is wrong, because the IOCC has seen fit to allow china to host the olympics. Politics should not be involved in Sport. I will be supporting these Olympics, and the Olympics held in ANY country always. As this is the point, to bring together the world in the spirit of good competition and friendship.

Well, you are probably right, but that's SUPPOSED to be the point. I'd like to think it was possible. Sport is important. The western world in particular (US and UK in particular) are getting far too lazy and I'm trying to do my part to increase participation in sport by running for president at dundee uni. I'd like to think that sport in any form can be celebrated and encouraged, wherever it is being held!

Politics and sport should not go together...but It has in the past. Ex: Soviets v Americans in the Moscow and LA olympics.

Are any nations boycotting this one? Im surprised their is not more, if any.  But I dont support it. Keep politics and sport separate.

Was listing to John Simpson's programme on Radio 4 this morning about going back to China and the things they're doing to try to get Beijing fit for the games are insane. They're having special days to teach people in Beijing to be polite on the streets, to not spit and (presumably, though Simpson didn't mention this) not go to the toilet in the middle of the road (as apparently is the general norm). They're also trying to decrease carbon emissions. I hear the air in Beijing is so bad that people who go jogging there on a regular basis ofter end up with respiritory infections. Yucky. Poor athletes.

In cases like this I don't agree sports should be kept separate to politics - by supporting them we are helping their economy.
